What is this in my battery compartment

Can anyone identify what this is and what it does. It is connected to a positive terminal via a red wire and the label says 10A max. Two pics are of the same item with different view.

I'm going to install a BMV 712 battery monitor. I hope this doesn't interfere or complicate the install.

Appreciate any help you can render.

Thanks!

It’s possibly one of a few things that I’ve seen hardwired like that before……
The motorized awning, power steps, propane detector, stereo?

Like I said it’s just a guess.
Pull the fuse out and see what doesn’t work.

Maybe goes to 'solar on the side' connector?

Looks like a water tight fuse holder.

Shouldn't interfere with BMV 712 install as shunt is installed on negative terminal and every other connection to negative terminal of battery is then installed to other end of shunt from end connected to battery.

ALL current in or out of battery has to flow through shunt.

Any chance it goes to the breakaway switch?

Yep looks like a 10 amp fuse that goes to something that needs to be direct wired to the battery.... Perhaps a tongue jack?

In any case, it should not interfere with your Battery Monitor..

All of the above are possibly correct.

Now, drum roll as we wait for conformation

X2

Could be for any number of possible things that need to be connected to constant power (not switched or disconnected) but yet fused for protection.

The year make and model of your rig makes it easier for us to second guess.

But I'm with everybody else it's either a dealer installed accessory like the tongue jack or for that matter possibly factory installed tongue jack or auxiliary solar input.

As long as it's good gauge wire fuse appropriately, if it ain't broken don't fix it.

The shop for your battery monitor has to go from the negative side of the batteries before anything else touches that negative side and then on the far side of that shunt your frame ground your solar negative you're any other negative that's coming anywhere near those batteries goes on me far side of the shunt away from the battery. And the shunt will want a little 12 + volt input with a little red wire that came with mine. That can go straight to the battery or any other point where there's 12 volt + continuously

Some good speculation on the identity of this power wire. I would vote with the tongue jack or breakaway. If you want to pursue its identity, you could always pull the fuse and see what no longer works.
