What should run on battery only

I've got a Salem 27DBK. What circuits typically work when running only on batteries? My residential fridge runs but no other 120 volt circuits. Should the outlets be energized?

That is correct. Normally the only 120VAC appliances that will work are the fridge. Outlets, tv, AC, and microwave will not. The stock battery bank and inverter are usually not large enough to handle much more. This should have been covered by dealer during PDI, but many do not.

Your fridge is probably on an inverter. Depending on how many batteries you have only the fridge is on there. Otherwise your batteries would be toast

Your 12V system should also run your lights, propane furnace and propane water heater.

But don't expect to get more than a couple hours out of a single battery, especially if it's one that was supplied with the trailer.
The fridge, the water pump and furnace fan are heavy users, as are the lights if they still are incandescent bulbs.

I have just discovered that my residential fridge is hooked up to the 12 v battery system which converts the 12v to 120/1/60. My converter just went out, so I have no 12v to the lights, etc. Fortunately the slides operate directly form the battery so I can at least move the rig to the repair shop in Santa Fe to get the damn thing fixed

Your lights are 12V and should work from battery as well. if they are not working, check fuses. If slide works all 12VDC items should work

The only things that won't work off the batteries directly are the wall outlets, AC, microwave, electric heat, electric hot water and TV.

Not knowing your RV experience, The below is a copy and paste, and I usually recommend it to those just starting out. Some of it, you may already know, or may not be applicable to your particular RV. You will be able to filter out what pertains to your situation or not. I would suggest you read the electric threads and energy management first, and then the converter thread. This will help explain your different electrical systems of your RV, and how they operate...as well as what the converter does. The very first link will explain what operates off what system. I also added a link explaining the "inverter" which is different from a converter but people confuse the terminology.

You can just peruse at your leisure:

Basic electric:

UNLESS you have a battery disconnect switch and you somehow have turned it off.

If the slides are working, it's safe to say the 12V disconnect is still on.

Most likely, but not necessarily. Some folks here on the forum have reported that their slides and power jack (and CO monitor) are powered directly from the battery.
