Why don't they have any 12V receptacle in new TT

My first Wildwood TT 11 years ago, had a 12V plug where the television would go. Never used it. Now that I'm thinking of doing some boondocking my new Surveyor doesn't have one. I was thinking of getting a portable solar setup to keep the battery charged but without a way to plug in a 12v fan or coffee maker, I'm not sure I want to get off grid or even do some free camping. Is there some solution?

Rita, can you let the members know what RV you have, then maybe someone who has similar may can offer better advice?

My Flagstaff does have a 12 volt outlet, but it is hidden somewhat in a cabinet near the television. You may have similar, but these type outlets typically won't provide a whole lot of power.

I suspect they dropped the socket because through some magic poll or survey they found out that like you, many never used it and it became a way to save a buck.

With that said, my unit has several and I'm glad they are there as I use mine.

You can easily add one.
There are many versions available.

1, those 12 volt recepticles are usually only rated to 1 or 2 amps,
2, most people simply dont bother with them.
3. They are really a useless expense.
4. 12 volt coffee maker will kill a battery rather fast.
5. Most boon dockers tend to use a real stove top coffee maker or with sifficient battery capacity install an inverter to operate their 120VAC appliances.

Thanks for those quick replies. I have a Surveyor 201RBS. I realize that I can always use the stove to make coffee, but I'm more interested in a fan. I have 2 small dogs and feel I need the air circulation if I have to leave them in the TT.
Any ideas on where to go for info on installing a 12V plug?

Here's a thread on how I added one to my trailer. Might give you some ideas:

Places like West Marine sell heavy duty receptacles. Wiring? Likely up to you.

I'd add that inverters are becoming cheaper and more commonplace than they used to be, so they also probably figure you can install an inverter and use a regular TV.

Replace the vent fan with a thermostatic controlled one.

That was one of the first mods I made on mine. We use the same charger in the trailer to charge the phones as in the truck.

At about 20 dollars with installation, if they don't install on say 1000 units they save themselves 20 thousand dollars.

Most of the televisions that come in new rv's are 120 volt units. Our new MH came with two outlets, one at the booster and one in the bedroom. Breaker for each outlet is 10 amp.

This is generally because they really aren't worth much except to charge phones and to run dedicated GPS units. FR fuses them at 7.5 amps. Do yourself a favor and get a more reasonable solution like some of these. https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Sea-Syst.../dp/B01BVBRBXA

We have one twelve-volt outlet in our Sun Seeker's main cabin and one to run a television in the bedroom. With our laptops, fans, and other equipment, I wish we had more, so we don't have to use shore power or run the generator. I've been meaning to install some more, but just haven't gotten around to it.

I guess a rechargeable fan would be a good option for now. I will have to look into an inverter as the TT came standard with a converter. I will have to find some good info before I would attempt installing it myself. I don't expect to do boondocking until next winter when we can travel in the South and SW. Thanks for all the suggestions.

We have two of the 12 volt outlets. One under the tv and another over by our chairs built in to the side cabinet so we can charge phones. later RJD
