Why is my 30amp Inlet male with round plug?
Hello, I just picked up this 2021 Roo 233s a couple months ago. I went to plug in the power cord that came with it to the side of the camper and noticed that the cord has a male and female end, but the camper has a male connection with a round plug (see pictures). Looking around for a different cord and this forum, it looks like the camper is supposed to attach to the flat three-prong female end of the power cord, and be able to screw on. Does my camper have the incorrect version of this connection installed? Should I replace it with a flat prong outlet, so that I can screw on the cord? Using a 30amp extension cord is getting the job done in the meantime.
Thank you!

Does that male outlet on your rv perhaps pull out. Just making sure it's not a permanent cord that you are seeing the male end to.
Can you grab the terminals and see if it pulls out?

your camper outlet is correct - mine is male. we are able to use the supplied 30 amp power cord.
it inserts and the black locking ring screws in the threading to lock in place.

The cord you have is the best one to use since it is a twist lock type. However, the connector on your RV is not a twist lock and the two are incompatible. One of them needs to be changed, unfortunately.

That's really odd. I'm not sure I've never seen an outlet like that on a camper before. I don't even know if they make a plug to fit that.
I did find this adapter though...

To the OP... your R/V was not built wrong. You have the incorrect shore power cord. You can either get the correct cord or change out the receptacle on the the side of the R/V to match the cord you have.
As to which one is "better"... if inserted correctly and the locking ring properly attached, (both styles have them) I've not see either style fail.
Note: here is the photo I posted in 2019...

I either missed that thread or just don't remember it.
Just because I'm curious, what does the cord look like?
I tried searching for one with a locking ring but it only showed me ones with the twist lock.

Our 1979 Sailboat had the twist-lock connector. When we came ashore in 2002 and got our first RV I was surprised the industry did not use the same connection. Then I thought about it some and realized there may be a fair number of power posts ripped out of the ground with the locking feature. Better this way.

Also... IIRC... the lock ring didn't have the traditional flimsy fine threads. If you look closely at the photo I posted of the receptacle on the side wall, while the receptacle does have fine threads, it also has a couple deeper grooves 180º apart. I'm pretty sure the lock ring I seen on the shore cord that day just had two tabs that fit those grooves. (1/3-1/4 turn)
I have no clue what the Conntek cord set ring has.

With my searching for RV lock ring power cords, all that was coming up was the flat blade locking style. I was also confused why the old owners had that style cord when it didn't fit the camper inlet.

This is a little more reassuring. I was starting to look into replacing the outlet on the camper, since the flat blade locking style cable with lock ring seems to be more common. Also, it looks like a fairly easy and not very expensive as well. If I can find a decent lock ring cord, at a decent price(not too cheap of course), that fits the current setup then I think I would prefer that route.

It looks like Amazon has them, but not in the locking variety.
The key is to look for a TP-30R to a TP-30R connections.
https://www.amazon.com/30-Amp-RV-Ext...NrPXRydWU&th=1
As to why it doesn't have a correct cord....
That cord looks brand new so they probably bought it just to sell the rig. So they either didn't notice the difference or couldn't find a replacement. Those cords can get a lot of abuse when camping and sometimes have to be replaced.

So, thanks to this forum for learning the style of plug I needed - TT-30P & TT-30R, I was able to find this cord on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093X5DHMV...t_details&th=1
I ordered the 50ft version, which is a little longer than I probably need. I figure at least I won't need to use an additional extension cord like I've occasionally needed in the past with a 25' cord.

Interesting thread and I'm glad I read it completely and didn't reflex-post "wrong" input connector on the camper! Without the twist lock ya just gotta be sure to tighten the ring.

It is interesting. It also requires me to amend post #4 in this thread I have been working on as a tutorial. I plan to use pics posted in this thread if no objections from those who provided them.

Very interesting thread. I would never thought they would install a connection like this on a camper. Later RJD
