Would this charge a trailer battery?
https://www.harborfreight.com/10250-...art-60581.html
Just wondering if something like this would be handy?
Thanks

x2! Ive always only needed to plug into shore power for all my trailers. The converters did the trick.
Never needed a separate battery charger to recharge the batteries. I do have one for my vehicles.

It is handy to charge the battery in my dump trailer. It's handy to charge the battery in my snowmobile and a dozen other things but again, not for my R/V. The converter does that.

Okay...I clearly don't know anything about this at all. I know your truck trickle charges it and solar will. I know shore power will charge it. I just didnt know if you are boondocking perhaps, and the battery is getting low, can you take the battery out and charge it some other way?

Use the Convertor in you RV. I has several stages and will switch to the proper one based on charge. The one you posted is a manual charger and if not monitored can over charge the battery.

External charging
I think the other forum members were confused by your first post. It sounds like you have a good grasp on battery charging disciplines, so I will get to your question.
Yes, this charger will charge your battery away from your trailer. The reference to a 3 stage charger is a good one if you plan on removing the Battery for extended time and leaving the battery on charge unattended. Depending on your style of boondocking, a charger with higher charge rates will bring back your battery faster, but you don’t want to leave it on after charging.

Even with this battery charger, you still need a 110v AC power source to plug it in. You'd have to take the battery out and take it and the charger somewhere to do this.

Yep, and if you have 110v AC, use the built in converter charger. If you are boondocking and need a way to charge you probably need to start thinking about a generator or a bigger solar setup & more batteries.

Yes, I did mean that we'd take it out and take it somewhere in the event we needed to. We're brand new to this and we don't know how long we could last on just battery and propane. Our only dry camping was just overnight. We put out the slide, ran the fridge on propane enough to get it cold, then turned the battery off. After that we used a battery lantern for light. We were worried we wouldn't be able to get the slide back in.
I thought if something like this would work it would ease my mind on that issue. We do plan on buying a generator eventually. Not in the budget right now.

For now buy yourself a good set of booster cables and boost off the truck battery if you drain the trailer battery.

Moving the battery somewhere to charge will get old...fast! The battery weighs quite a bit, and it will take hours, maybe many hours, to get a usable charge.
Using the disconnect switch may shut down the fridge, even if on propane (battery for control circuits). Also, being able to use the battery powered lights in the trailer at night is really nice/safer. If your tow vehicle doesn't automatically disconnect, consider disconnecting the trailer cord from the tow vehicle.
Starting the tow vehicle MAY give enough charge to the trailer to run the slide if the trailer battery is too discharged. Many variables. Consider carrying jumper cables in the tow vehicle. If you trailer battery gets run down and can not power the slide, jump the trailer with the tow vehicle. Way less trouble than toting the battery and a charger to a remote site to charge.

IMHO, you would be better served by a set of jumper cables. You could use your tow vehicle battery to supply power to the trailer in the event of an emergency like getting the slide in. Obviously you dont want to leave it connected and have 2 dead batteries The charger would have to be connected to the battery for a while to give it a good charge.
I know you said a generator is on the list. One option to consider is a small LP/ gasoline unit. If you have someone plumb your trailer LP with a fitting to supply the generator then you do not need gas or an extra LP tank. Also dont have to worry about fouled carburetors and gas smells.

The battery minder plus is available on Amazon for $48 and change
I pull my battery when I store my trailer and gives it a full to float charge that increases the life of the battery

Yep, a 6v golf cart battery costs more than that, even at Costco or Sam's Club.

This will take WAY longer to recharge a depleted battery, than a regular battery charger.
