12V inflation tool

Well this weekend my trusty old Coleman 12V inflation tool gave out on me. Not on my camper but I had a flat on my utility trailer just a few miles from home. I wanted to just blow up the tire and get home... no luck.
I have seen some on here brag on their brand of tire inflation tool, so I am asking...

what is your favorite and where did you get it?

thx in advance

I just bought this one for the camper. We'll always have 120v Wherever we go so I figured what the heck. I've used it two times. So far so good.

Gave up on the 12V. Too slow. Would heat up & need cool down time. Also couldn't reach the PSI some of my tires recommended. So I carry a pancake compressor now.

Viair all the way. Don't throw your money away on a box store compressor. The most important spec is duty cycle, followed closely by cubic feet per minute. A twist-on chuck sure beats holding it there, too. I bought mine for airing back up after off-roading, but now that I own a TT I use it for that, too, plus anything else I need air for. It's also now half the price that I paid: https://www.amazon.com/Viair-00088-8...keywords=viair

Looked at that one too.

Did you find a workaround for the battery clamps? I'd rather use 120v than open the hood all the time.

I deliberately wanted 12V for off-roading as I always air down my truck tires to 20 psi for rough 4x4 trails. You could always have both by using a 110V to 12V converter if you can find one capable of 20A output, although from a quick look at the cheap converters on Amazon they admittedly mostly seem to top out around 10A. With 12V, though, you have air anywhere from your own driveway to boondocking, or even on the shoulder of the freeway with semis whizzing past. Personally I don't find opening the truck hood to be a big inconvenience.

Seriously, you won't find a better compressor than the Viair 88p. It's oil-less and maintenance free. I've been able to air four large off-road tires back up from half pressure to full pressure in under 10 minutes without ever having to stop to allow the compressor to rest. See the first Amazon review on the previous link, where the reviewer compares the specs of the different models. And at sub-$50 it's a steal, I paid ~$80 on Amazon a few years ago.

You must carry around a genny... I don't as a rule... I need 12V in the most out of the way places including on the highway sometimes... not often but once is enough.

Still looking for YOUR favorite 12V inflation tool... although the VIair looks good.

Viair or bust. It's better than the 120v 3gallon pancake compressor I had before. My buddy upgraded to one from a Harbor Frieght compressor and recently said, "I don't know why I waited so long!"

Cool

I bought one of these recently and it works great!

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I got it for $21.65 delivered on sale.

It has a dial on the gauge that you set to whatever pressure you want it to air up to and it shuts off automatically.

My mom has that one. She really likes it.

Having the option between 12v and 120v is nice.

I think y'all convinced me to go with the ViAir 88p though. Returning the one I purchased from Wally world.

You won't regret it, I promise.

The problem with that B&D is that it uses the cigarette lighter. That limits what the motor can draw, as opposed to alligator clips directly on the battery. Kinda like how you can only use an inverter up to 150W in the lighter socket before you have to go to battery clamps or hardwiring.

I agree on that and after thinking about trying to air up TV tires or TT tries the Vivair looks like a nice unit that would certainly be a better choice.

That is the one I have - works great on the rv.

Also picked up drill, work light, blower to clean off awning etc and all take same batteries which makes it nice.

The auto shutoff works well and pressure is right on from my checks at least.

I have had good luck with the Kobalt digital portable inflator from Lowes. It operates both on 12 volt and 120 volt. I think the max psi is 125psi.

Whatever Walmart has. Current one has a Slime label on it and after about 8 years, it's falling apart. I never leave home without one.

Viair 450p, very happy with it. If I had known about the 88p, I probably would have gone with that and the lower price. The 450p has an endless duty cycle but the 88p looks to be able to run for about a 1/2 hour which is longer than anytime I have used my 450p. I have had the 450p for about 14 months and have used it quite a bit. I do like the nozzle that comes with the 450p, it is not screw on but a snap on type.
