Looks like you may have had bearing issues too?
Appears to be a stuck inner bearing race on the old spindle.
SeaDogs advice of not overloading is good.
I know you said the R/V was "new to us" but "worn out", "sagging", "uneaven load" are not things that usually happen to a axle when the R/Vs weight ratings are followed.
