Any ideas on how to keep these hub caps on?

Hello all,

Wondering if there is someone out there that had any ideas on how to keep these hub caps on the wheels.

Last summer on my return trip from SoDak I lost 3 of these. Trying to not repeat it this summer too.

There is a hole for a screw on one side and a small tab on the opposite side that goes into the wheel. The center of the cap seems to be snapped into the larger "ring" that is secured to the wheel.

Last summer I lost one of the center caps (but kept the ring) on one wheel. On another wheel I kept the screw and the plastic "triangle" around it and on the third I lost the entire thing. I called the manufacturer and all that they could suggest was some loc-tite on the threads which wouldn't have helped in two of the caps I missed.

I thought about some hot glue on the tabs on the back might help keep the center cap in place. Not sure what to do in the scenario where the ring broke off of the "triangle" and left the screw.

I would think a slot for the tab and a hole for the screw in the rim. Are this cap being used on the correct rim?

Yes, that's the way they mount to the rim.

I would think the slot could be a bit longer or with a slight "hook" which might help more. However, no way I can modify that.

The camper is out at the storage lot. I can assure you it's the correct rim and cap.

This is the manufacturer's site.

We have the same rims/caps and so does a coworker. we haven't lost one yet, coworker lost the middle part after a bearing burned up, but I know that tab doesn't go very far in. Do your tires need to be balanced perhaps? Otherwise I'm guessing there just isn't enough of a lip left in the rim - maybe there never was

You can check hub temps easier without the center caps.

Most trailer tires are NOT balanced, why NOT? Your truck tires are balanced. Vibration just transmits through everything, not good for it.

I'll have to see if they can be balanced. They don't really have a lip on the outside for the crimp-on weights.

The cap should not fall out if you are sliding in the tab and using a screw in the screw hole. Use a little loc-tight on the screw to keep it in.

Most custom wheels/cast aluminum wheels; a good tire shop will use stick on weights these days

Not a bad idea. May give that a shot too.

I do have my camper tires balanced.

As for the pretty hub caps. Lost one over 5 years ago, so I took the other three off. I bought a new one, but decided to leave them all off. My camper and it looks fine to me.
