axle broke

Last weekend, coming back from camping at myrtle beach sc. My axle broke. It was a drope axle. It broke where the axle and the drop part start. The weld gave way. By the look of it, it had been slowly breaking for a while. When it broke only about a quarter of the axle had been holding it. I had a scary time because I was driving down the road and the wheel past me when it broke. Luckly it didnt hit anything and just stopped in a yard. Has anyone ever had this happen?

Tandem axles or a single axle? Any damage to the trailer?

I had a small sailboat and a leaf spring broke. When that happened the axle twisted and sheared the bolts on the other side. I felt the van lurch, put the brakes on and the axle and wheels passed me end over end.

Never happened and sure hope it never does. I'm going to check my welds after that story.

Sure glad everyone is ok and that it didn't hit any oncoming traffic!

That is possible, but the back of the toyhauler was very clean. I dont think it was used alot for hauling. I think it was used to hold the workers at construction sites.
