Can a tire's TPMS sender be reset?

Anyone know if the TPMS sender located inside the tire on a common truck or car can be reset without pulling the tire off? I have one in a 2007 Ford F150 and one in a 2011 Ford Escape that are each sending false Low Pressure warnings.

Thanks.

These sensors have internal batteries that eventually run down. These batteries are sealed and the entire sensor must be replaced. Usually when you start getting bad readings, it due to the battery getting weak.

When you first crank the vehicles, do the tpms icon lamps flash on the dash?

See post #9811 from the Mondays at the tire shop thread. We just talked about this a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the info.

Yes, the Escape flashes at startup and then goes solid ON until the vehicle is switched OFF.

The F150 does all kind of odd things.

May flash for a while at times.
May be ON solid for a while at times.
May be OFF for a while at times.

Yeah, you may have 1-4 sensors bad. That flashing is a fault code. Are you still using the OE sensors which would be very good to have lasted this long. Your Ford truck may have the banded type sensors, which you can replace with the valve stem types. Cheaper and easier.

Even if have one sensor bad, you may be looking at replacing the rest in short order.

The truck has only 62K miles & I got it at 25K so it probably has all Ford original banded units except one that was replaced about 9 months ago. That "fixed" the error light for about a month and then it started again. I figured it was the replacement that is failing but I haven't had it checked yet. I bet you may be correct in that it may be a second original banded unit that is failing instead of the new one. I'll have it checked in the next day or two.

Thanks for your input.

No reset to the transmitters. They either work, or they don't. You can do a relearn, but that's only for the receiver. In my experiences, the sensors [transmitters], either come apart inside the tire or the batteries go bad.

With a vehicle of that age it may not have sensors in the tires, some of them use the wheel speed sensors and alert when one tire is rotating at a different speed than the others. I low tire will turn more revolutions per mile than one fully inflated.
