Catalytic Converters

Having just visited our MH in storage, I commented to our storage warehouse manager about the immaculate new Tiffin MH stored next to ours. He commented that it is very nice if it weren't for the stolen catalytic converter. Apparently, this MH's converter was stolen while parked overnight at the owner's residence. As they also have a U-Haul franchise, he noted that some of his vehicles had their converter stolen, as have some auto dealerships in the area (northern Indiana).

Has anyone heard of similar incidents? Or any ideas on preventative measures? This would be a bad start to a trip to learn your converter was stolen!

Unfortunately it's very common. We have several threads on our forums about this. Here are a few recent ones

There is a scourge of CC theft in Cedar Rapids IA at the moment.

Unhappy Catalytic Converters

Yes. The storage lot in our community was hit by thefts of several catalytic converters from RVs. The thieves made a hole in the fence and cut out the devices with a reciprocating saw. They probably would’ve taken more but they left behind a broken blade. They get $20 to 50 for the things and owners / insurance gets a bill for over $1000. The thieves also took a generator off an RV, probably also cutting the cable with the saw. We (the community) got new security cameras and more lighting. We’ve never had a crime problem before but it has a way of reaching out to wherever people are.

Yup very common throughout nearly everywhere, this has been on going for years. Unfortunately nothing new.

Yes, here, too unfortunately. The metal recyclers are required to take a photo of anyone/everyone selling metal...and, they do. Then, when the perps are chased down, arrested and convicted the "penalty" is "please don't do that any more, and have a good day". Repeat. Expect it to only get worse as it's a way of life for a segment of our "society".

Hey, another Cedar Rapids resident. The explosion of battery powered cutting tools has really made things easy for the bad guys.
