Change from 15" to 16" wheels
Has anyone upgraded their 15" wheels to 16"? Where can I buy larger wheels and where can I purchase them?

Carlisle makes a ST225/75R15 load range E tire that I have had good luck with so far, after failing quite a number of other brands, mainly in load range D. NOTE: Don't get Titan load range E tires, as I tried two of them and they both failed within 2000 miles (the worst I ever had). And frequently visually inspect all tires for a crowned tread surface (rather than almost straight across). The tire will also appear larger in diameter. That means the underlying cord has ruptured in the center of the tread and the tire will fail VERY soon.

Regarding wheels, you may have a hard time finding 16" wheels with the same bolt pattern as your 15". 15" are usually 5-bolt, and 16" are usually 6-bolt.

I have 15" diameter wheels that have a six bolt lug pattern. I installed Maxxis 8008 tires in Load range E that now have over 8000 miles on them and still look new.

Is that to say that the manufacturer has not provided you with a rim and tire combination that will accommodate the load capacity of their trailer? I'm just playing the devil's advocate here.

I have not yet done this, but many of my camping friends have gone to truck tires for better load and speed capability. No real need to change the wheel size. . .

The factory provided tire/wheel combo on my Micro-Lite did not add up to the max load of my TT, let alone side-to-side load variations due to wind, cornering, cargo, etc.

Your have very little choices in 15" LT tires and if found will probably have a lower load range ratings vs. ST. I had 225/75-15 St 6 lug tires on my first trailer and went to 225/75R16 LT tires. Bought from "trailer tire and wheels". Had the best price of BFG tires and rims. Mounted, balanced and metal stems delivered to a campground I was in. Also sent new lug nuts and a deepwall socket to reach the nuts. Go to their website and you can see the rim offerings.

16" wheels
After multiple tire failures with two different manufacturers, we switched to white steel rims and Firestone LT225/25R16 load range E tires. (max pressure of 80lbs) I drove the unit to a knowledgable tire shop I normally do business with. The profile of these tires are within an inch of the old tires. I trimmed back the inside corners of the thin tin trailer skirt to give more suspension movement room for the tires. That modification wasn't visible unless you crawled under the trailer. I also trimmed the black plastic "fender" where it turns in towards the tires for the same reason. We haven't had any issues and it might be my imagination but it seems to ride better.

That's another whole can of worms.

Not sure why anyone needs a speed capability of yet alone over 75 mph as most ST tires come with now.
As far as loads capability ~~ my LR G tires are rated at 4400#. Doubt you will find many 16" LT with that much. ST usually have a greater load carrying capacity.

My son just bought a set of 14 ply for his trailer at the beginning of the season.
Gs are out there in a 235/85-16G.
I went from a 225/85-15D to a 235/80-16E on my trailer. I still need about 1-2 more inches of lift so my trailer will ride level.

I was experiencing problems with the load range "E" factory installed tires on our Crusader as well primarily from weakening of the sidewalls when jacknifing which subsequently resulted in a couple of blowouts. Again I am thankful that no significant damage occurred to the RV. Being a mechanic with many years experience on trucks and trailers i determined the main issue is the load range e tires were just at the limit for the trailer. I have switched all my tires to load range "G". These have 4 more plies in the sidewalls and should be less subseptical to belt separation caused by the dragging when jacknifing into a parking spot.

Two questions:
What size tires/load range do you have now?
What is the laden weight of your 5er now?

235/85r/16 Briway and the approximate weight of the 5er is 14000lbs. I was getting tired (no pun intended) of anticipating the next blowout or tire replacement everytime I went on a trip after the year we went to NFLD and tire replacement from damage to the sidewalls and a blowout became a regular occurrence. 3 tires on the trip. And I am OCD qjen it comes to preventive maintenance and checkumg tire pressure. I am hoping the load range G tires amd TPMS will offer me peice od mind on our 3200 mile trip to CA next month
