China Bombs

Are these the “China bombs” I read about? I’ve got four (two axle) rated at 1850# each on a TT weighing around 5500# loaded. Put around 5000 miles on them last year (unit was new last year).

Do you think I’ve got a ticking bomb?

Multiply the total amount of campers manufactured every year by the number of tires on each trailer, then include all the campers on the road from all the previous years and I don't think you'll find blowouts are as common as it seems on forums like this one. The way it sounds with the "china bomb" talk you would think every other trailer was having blowouts.

Of course tire failures do happen to people that do everything right, but I see all the time trailers flying by me at 75mph or even more. Then there's the overloaded trailers too.

69 mph and not overloaded I felt the same about the odds of it not happening until it did. The fifth wheel didn’t squirm or sway simply heard a loud pop as if I drove over a 2x4. Never noticed until I saw the smoke in the side view mirror from the tire.

Yeah, that tire looked mangled! That's exactly why I specifically said it does happen to some folks that do everything right also.

I'd just really love to see some actual data on the failure rate of factory tires. Often when reading online in forums the term China bomb makes it sound like it's some extremely high number like 10% or something.

There's another thread going on right now I just read with two failures of Good Year Endurance tires. One was the original poster and the second reply in the thread was about a guys neighbor who had his bubble and burst in his driveway. I think the Good Years are nice tires and would like to get them myself, but it just goes to show, these things happen even with what's considered the good ones too.
