Crack in Tire

We're on the road and just noticed a crack in one of the rear tandem tires on our Class A. It's about 1 cm deep. There is no bulge or loss of pressure. Treads are good. Tires have about 29,000 miles on them and I was planning on replacing all upon return from this trip and before our next one. Could use an assessment of the risk involved with continued travel. I've attached a picture of the crack.

I'd be looking for a tire shop.

You are making me do math way too early in the morning.

25.4 mm to an inch, so 2.54 cm to an inch......so maybe just a hair over 3/8ths of an inch.

It looks more like a cut with diagonal path like that than a true rubber crack. You need to take a flat head screwdriver and kind of pry it open somewhat. If you can see any cords/steel wires...it needs to come off for sure. If you don't see any, you probably can just continue on.

Is that an age crack? How old are the tires? How are the tires you can't see. Seven (7) years is my rule of thumb for vehicles parked outdoors regardless of available tread.

Looks like a cut to me as though you got against a curb or sharp rock. If you can’t see the cords and there’s no bulge drive-r

This is my opinion and should not be considered professional advise. Thanks.

Age of tire unknown? In my 70s and never had a cut and I used to commute 75 miles a day.

Maybe a cut is not unheard of but I'd replace asap and in the meantime hope you have a tpms to keep an eye on the pressure

Here’s another idea. Stop at a commercial tire shop and ask them.

X2. Be proactive. Take care of it now, not on the side of the road.

I would follow WMtire's (and others) advice and if it just a surface cut, don't go very far out of your way or cancel activities to replace it. Replace it at your convenience.

And let us know your findings and solution....
