Dexter Tor-Flex

We are on the road towing a Rockwood 2511S. Dual axle.Our passenger side front tire is showing extreme inside side wear. Wheel seems to be out of camber to the top towards the axle. A kind truck driver waved us over late yesterday to point this out to us while on Rte 5 north. Got the wheel off the ground and no excessive movement to indicate bearings. Could the spindle be bent? Any thoughts are appreciated. Only forum site I could find was the Dexter manual.

Could be bent spindle or bent tube that encases the torsion bar.

Regardless, the only cure on a torflex axle is replacing the axle. Brakes/hub can be saved with just the torsion axle being replaced.

Depending on year of TT the axle could be either Dexter or Lippert. Tag on axle will provide answer. May still have warranty so I 'd contact whichever company it is. They can advise if under warranty and either way direct you to a qualified shop near you.


Based on picture, unless an optical illusion, I'd say "bent spindle" which is usually welded into the swing arm.

If it is a Dexter axle, best move is to report it online at the link below to get info into their system then call them. i just had an axle replaced. Dexter does NOT recommend repair shops - you have to find one on your own. Pick one before reporting for fastest replacement. Get under your trailer and get the info off the stickers that are on the axles - take pictures if possible and submit them. Good news though, the long delays, 2-3 months, in getting a new axle that occurred a couple years ago are gone. New axle was at the shop i picked 8 days from date of order and that was with an email apologizing for a delay... Took the shop a half day to replace.

Might consider putting on spare rather than risk this tire wearing into the cord body and coming apart. If no spare even swapping to other side might help for the distance required.

No way I'd "baby" that tire anywhere.

Thanks for all the thoughts. I did remove the worn tire. Put the spare on and will continue to monitor it closely.When doing so I noticed a lot of bearing grease apparently from the rear seal. Did use the Dexter zerk method of lubing twice in the last two years. Also have been back and forth across the country in two years.
The Goodyear tires were installed in July of '22 before the last cross country trip. Nevada to Connecticut.
We are currently at a site in NoCal visiting family.
Have a 850 mile trip home and will professionals address the tire wear issue.
