Discount tire direct - Maxxis 8008's

Well, after I exhausted my search for tires, and bugged all you guys to death with endless questions, I called the guys at Discount Tire Direct this past Monday, 3/28 at around 2 in the afternoon. I asked the guy about how fresh was their inventory, because I didn't want to receive tires that were already 2 years old. He promised to put a message with the order instructing them to verify the dates were less than a year old. I doubt anyone checked anything, but that was the first thing I checked when they arrived and the tires were less than 6 months old. I can live with that. But the interesting thing is that I ordered Monday afternoon, and the dang tires were sitting on my doorstep Tuesday afternoon. WOW! Less than 24 hours from ordering to delivery.
I've never experienced service that fast before. The tires were pulled and put on a UPS truck in Dallas Monday afternoon. I was shocked to say the least.

Anyway, this morning, I pulled the wheels 2 at a time, and had them mounted and balanced at our friendly neighborhood tire shop. They are on the trailer as I type this. Haven't pulled the trailer at highway speeds yet, but will be within a couple of weeks.

Anyway, thanks to everyone that provided input and guidance. I appreciate it. You guys all helped me make the decision.

Awesome! I can vouch for their service when things don't go right- 1 of my 4 Maxxis tires didn't make it. I called DTD and they initiated an investigation with UPS. After 24 hours, they called me back and said that regardless of what UPS found- they were shipping me a replacement tire.

Unfortunately it looks like they only sell the E-rated Maxxis tires, and since my 5er currently has C-rated tires I'm guessing that my rims will only support D-rated at max (which tbh is plenty for my rig), so I think I'll have to order them from Amazon and get them installed by the local tire shop.

Any recommendations on valve stems ?

I have a TST507 TPMS setup, which is not happy with 2 of the valve-stems currently fitted (which are cheap rubber junk), since I get intermittent low readings because they're not properly pushing in the valve stem core pin (and I've replaced the core), so I'm thinking of fitting some metal valve stems, but not sure which are any good.

I searched for bolt on valve stems too, and found them at NAPA for like $3 each, and they are rated for 200 psi. I actually picked them up the same day I ordered the Maxxis 8008's. Had them installed with the new tires. When I got home Tuesday afternoon, the tires were sitting there with a box from TechnoRV with the TST-507. I will probably install it tomorrow.

So are these the newer tires with the speed ratings or are they the ones that tire rack are discounting to deplete their inventory of the ones without the new requirement of speed rating the tires.

CWS, I assume these are the slightly older stock they needed to move out of inventory since their dare of manufacture is right at the dates you mentioned. I pretty much have to be okay with these regardless of the speed rating, as they are mounted, balanced and paid for.

Good to hear David. I literally had the same experience. Ordered maxxis m8008 on Monday afternoon (March 28). I ordered them direct from maxxis Canada. They arrived Tuesday afternoon. They had a manufacturer date of mid November 2015. They look great. Hoping to have them on TT this weekend.

I've ordered many items from them and got a bad rim once that they went the extra mile to make right. I've found their prices good but their service has always been great.

I replaced my SOB trailer tires with the same ones you did from the same retailer. Super fast service as well.
0 complaints with these folks on any transaction i've had with them.

The Maxxis M8008 ST Radial is "Q" speed rated. However, according to the Tire and Rim Association, the U.S. tire industry specification authority, inflation pressures and load specifications in general for any ST Radial trailer tires, without a service description, regardless of the manufacturer, are designed and rated at 65 MPH. If the speed is higher than 65 MPH, the pressure and load need to be adjusted according to the following guidelines:
From 66 to 75 MPH – the tire inflation pressure needs to increase 10 PSI (not to exceed the maximum PSI the tire is rated for) but requires no load adjustment.
From 76 to 85 MPH – the tire inflation pressure needs to increase 10 PSI (not to exceed the maximum PSI the tire is rated for) and load should be reduced by 10%.

we purchased them in early 2015 had them installed and balanced. Took 3 long road trips to Maine, NH (Nascar race at Louden) and Prince Edward Island fully loaded. they handle nice, no sway.

i'm also using the Truck Systems Technologies 507 monitoring system on them. they didn't build up as much temp and pressure as the other tires we had on it.

the Goodyear dealer said there were certain brands to stay clear of and certain brands to find and buy. these was highly rated.

I had the same problem with a Tire Minder TPMS system. Just didn't push in the valve stem core pin. Tried to modify with a insert about the size of a BB, but just couldn't get it to work consistently. Also one of the units leaked thru the unit itself. Chalked it up to money wasted.

Thanks to MilCop4523, I also just ordered a set of Maxxis M8008s from Discount Tire Direct. Had them shipped to a KinekPoint shipping point on the border. Only took 2 days to deliver them. Now I have to get there to pick them up. I also asked about the date on the tires when ordering and they said they had only come in from the factory 7 days prior so I presume they'll be fairly new.

Nash, I understood that to buy them in Canada they'd have to be shipped from the only Maxxis distributor in Canada which is in B.C.? That would cost $200. I just Googled it again and found a new website tdotperformance.ca. Is that where you ordered yours from? I paid US$104 = CAD$135 per tire (free shipping within the US) for 205/75R15 LR-D. The website I referred to would charge CAD$185 per tire.

I've had Maxxis on my trailer for over a year (3 of them) and over 2 years (one of them). No issues... about 3K miles on 1 tire and about 2K miles on the other. Best of luck with them. I don't think you can go wrong with Discount Tire, either. I've not used the Direct division, but their retail stores are top notch.

"Save" as compared to what? The tires were $157 each plus valve stems at $3 each, plus $20 mount and balance. so, $180 per tire to be ready to go,....so $720 for the set. There were cheaper tires I could have bought, but I already had a set of the cheapest tire out there...Constancy 188's.
And, fwiw, I stuck an ad on Facebook last evening, sold the Constancys this morning for $200.
So,...I'm out $520 for a new set of Maxxis tires plus a little gasoline for my Toyota Tundra farm truck running back and forth to the tire shop,...plus my time, but I'm retired, so,...I needed something to do anyway..lol

So, what did we want to compare to?

Itat :

My tires came delivered to my door all in for $140 each. I ordered from website "maxxiscanada". The receipt says they came from Brampton ontario. 205/75R14

Is this the online site related to discount tire stores? I had to go with SOB brand tire because our local Discount Tire brick and mortar store can't handle anything other than a routine tire. Had a bad experience when trying to get boat trailer tires there. It would be nice to have a good online resource.
