Electric brakes failed on 2021 Wolf Pup 16FQ-D

ATTN! Check your electric brake wiring!!. We drove from Raleigh to Surf City (2.5 hrs)
Somewhere along the way, there was a message on the dash that said "check trailer connections". We pulled over, and didn't see any problems with the trailer connector. What it was is the brake wiring got pinched and wiring was cut. Thank god nothing happened on the road. I just happened to look underneath this morning (thank you God) and discovered this! I had a mobile RV Repair on the way-----
BRAND NEW 2021 16FQ WOLF PUP . Side note-- RV came with 1 yr road service- their solution- tow it to Wilmington to be serviced- r u kidding me- what a waste of time that call was!
Going to contact forest River (again) when I get home

X2. Did you splice the wire back together, or just drive without brakes?
Just curious.

Curious too as to what cut.
That wiring has protection in it so the likely hood of an Oh God moment was small.
You just wouldn't have brakes and you obviously did ok until you found the cut wire.

As to a waste of time road service call... the person on the other end of that call had no idea what might have happened from your description (just as we don't) so having the unit towed to a repair facility was spot on.

I had received a message on my dash saying check trailer connection. We pulled over and checked and couldn't see anything wrong (I didn't look under the truck)
I did feel like the brakes weren't working, but this was the first trip and wants familiar with the brake operation on the Pup, we made it to the campground with out a problem It was pretty flat at the beach.

I was checking under the camper when I noticed the cut wires.. i had a mobile RV repair fix it (and re dress the wires. Had no problems on the way home . I am glad it didn't happen when we were in the mountains, that could have been real bad

Yes the wires were pinched and both were separated . I have pictures on the wires in place, and the piece the tech cut off. You can see the wires are "flat" on the ends. It was in line with the u bolts and the frame

Looks like the wires got pinched when the frame bottomed out against the axle. If you look closely you can see a divot and scrape on the tire side of the frame.

One of you owners should file a report with NHTSA. There ought to be a recall on this one.

Agreed, if it's as many as the OP says, someone needs to know.

Here's a link to the online report form. It takes 5 minutes to complete. I don't own this model or have pictures. Will you do it for us all?

You can do it by phoning the Vehicle Safety Hotline
You can call 1-888-327-4236 or 1-800-424-9393 toll free from anywhere in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands to register complaints or receive recall information about a vehicle. But I don't know if you will be able to submit pictures.

Larry,
You quoted my post and I'm just being sure your question/statements weren't directed to me (I don't believe they are) but this would be the OPs responsibility.

Sorry, 5p. I thought your comment, "Someone needs to know" was sufficiently relevant for me to identify who "someone" was.

Obviously, neither you or I own the affected product and can make the report--and the OP has the damning photographs. My expectation was that he would make the report.

I even said so, "I don't own this model or have pictures. Will you do it for us all?"

And I added "I don't know if you will be able to submit pictures." which is clearly directed to the OP.

Gotcha... misunderstood.
My fault, my apologies.

Did none of your other trailer brakes work or was this the main feed? The photo depicts it might have been just one wheel?

It was on the main feed to the axle. I could have been disastrous if it was one brake. The camper could have taken off to one side if that brake engages.

They run the wire thru the axle (tube), and connect it to the other brake.
I am attaching another view of the wires

Hey FAS thanks for alerting us. I'm going to go out and look at my 2021 16FQ and see where they routed the brake wires. I'm sure I'll be able to figure something out as to how to reroute or secure them (the wires) in a way where they won't get pinched if the axle bottoms out on the frame. Will take some pics and advise.

This is NOT something that you want to wait for Forrest River to address/recall. Action needs to be taken before the failure.

Thanks Again
