JT Strong Arms help needed

After the Amana rally and checking out others Micro Lites, DW and I decided that we should add JT strong arms to stabilize our trailer. That and the ordering are about the only easy part so far.

I pulled one jack foot off to find that my jacks have 1/4 inch bolts which the 3/8 bolts Lippert provides will not fit. next step, Drill the holes to 7/16th to get the New bolts to fit. the provided bolts are 4 inches, but when i tighten them I reach the end of the threads. so do I need to start stacking washers? estimating that it will be 4-6 washers Is this a bad idea?

Now I am just frustrated... any help or tips would be appreciated.
