Quality, H rated 17.5 tires

Hello,

Due to some uneven wear, combined with age, I am looking for some pricing to replace the tires on our rig. However, they are somewhat rare. 215/75R17.5 H rated Goodyear G114, and the prices I am seeing vary between 400-500 per tire. I understand one blowout will cost me exponentially more than that, but I am looking to save if I can.
We are currently on our way to AZ for the next couple months, then CA in February. Just wondering if anyone has any tips for dealers that know their stuff and could save us a couple bucks.

As for the uneven wear, axles were trued and bearings repacked about 1750 miles ago. Tire wear was established prior to that. Rotated tires today, will see what develops on the next leg of our journey. Tires are circa 2014, and have ~15,000 miles on them.

Sorry, for clarity, we will be in the south. Basically, Benson/Tuscon/Yuma AZ, then Desert Springs CA, then back to Page AZ, then North.

The 17.5” sailun tires are getting good reviews. A friend has them on his very heavy 5’er and likes them as much as he did his previous set of G114’s.

I bought my 17.5” setup from TT&W. I opted for Continental tires of some sort.

They are a good company. I bought a set of wheels and tires from them for my last 5’er. They mounted, balanced and put metal valve stems on for me.

Most important is the inflation pressure. With the LRH G114 (one of the best trailer tires of that size on the market) you have plenty of load capacity reserves. Don't be tempted to air them down. Goodyear does not recommend it.

For a big heavy trailer with only 2500# of cargo capacity you're always riding heavy.

I replaced my tires with Goldstar tires rated H. Les Schwab Tire in Utah sold them to me after a blowout on my 5er. I have put 20,000 miles on them since installed with no problems and excellent tread wear.

Good call. I did find that my original 3 gallon pancake compressor wasn’t up to the task of airing up past 108psi. I ended up upgrading to a Viair 450P to be able to go to 125psi.

I have Goodyear G614 on my Cedar Creek, not cheap. When they wear out I’ll replace them with another set of Goodyear G614. I have had no problems with my Goodyear’s, at least forty thousand miles and still look brand new. If I should trade for a bigger Cedar Creek I’ll get the 8,000lb axles and the Goodyear 17.5 G114 tires.

I must admit, I am nervous to try a Sailun tire. Based on nothing more than it doesn’t have the Goodyear “name power”. I do however realize no tire is infallible.

I agree regarding the importance of tire pressures, I check regularly. I actually just replaced my pressure gauge, it lives next to my torque wrench in the pass through storage.

I replaced my Goodyear Marathon load range E tires with Sailum 17.5 tires about 3 years ago now. I love the Sailum tires and have had NO problems with them. Not so with the Goodyear Marathon tires I blew two on the trip home in the spring. I am very dedicated checking the tire pressure and condition before each trip. But the great Goodyear tires did not live up to their name reputation, and by the way they did not stand behind the tires when they failed not one red cent.

In the attached reference you will find a LRH 17.5" Sailun tire equal to your current tires, In size and load capacity and it's a true trailer tire just like the G114.

Trump's tariffs may boost it's cost by Jan 2019.
