resting trailer on axle jacks?????

We are changing the tires on our single axle trailer (wolfpup 16fq) ... we have bottle jacks to jack up the trailer ... Not going to jack with the bottle jack on the axle, going to lift with jack on the frame. Can we place two axle jacks on the axles to hold the camper in place while we go to the tire store and trade out our two tires???? I understand we shouldn't jack up on the axle but can we rest the camper on a jack stand on the axle while the tires are off??

I would not do it without protecting the axle with wood or similar on top of stand.

PVC pipe on the axle with the axle nut holding it in place.

Not sure why you would want it under the axle instead of frame myself?

Probably because they have one bottle Jack and two tires to take to the shop at the same time?

Agree but why risk damage to an axle? Just seems like the frame would be a better spot for a jack stand? Would I trust leaving a jack in place? No.

We had a thick block of wood with a half moon clamp on top with rubber protection we could hang from an axle secured in place with the nut when ever we had to put an axle back on the ground to relieve pressure from the jack.

People on forums over think things, jack stands on the axle will be fine.

In my 68 years I have yet to see an axel damaged by using a jack or a jack stand under it. They are designed to hold the weight of the RV while going down the road and hitting bumps. Sitting still with the weight on them should not hurt them at all. I do like to place the jackstands under the spring mounts, it just makes sense, that location is capable of handling the weight.

if you jack on the frame use a cinder/concrete/cement block and some wood under the frame
gives ample support
the block should be in the normal upright position (with the HOLE up if it has holes)

if you support it ON the axle..... more work as you have to deal with suspension travel

blocks only cost from $2.17 at the hardware store
and if you store trailer for long lengths of time.. would not hurt to put it on blocks too

edited.... for use of different styles of blocks

Call them concrete masonry units. LOL if you use the term cinder blocks somebody here will lose their mind about how they crush not considering your kid's school gymnasium walls are built from them, are 2-3 stories high with the roof load supported by them and are perfectly safe to use.

One other question are you leaving the TV hooked up while doing this???

Seen too many tongue jacks fold up (fail) this way.

While people use jacks and jack stands on the axles at the tires all the time, practically all manufacturers of TTs tell you to only use the frame.

Leaf spring suspension? It will be fine put the jack stand as close to the leaf spring as you can.

Torsion axle? Support from the frame only.

The axles and springs are designed to suspend the weight of the RV, not lift it. I always use dunnage under the frame once it's jacked.

Doesn't the RV get lifted by the axles as you go over bumps?

Depends on the type of suspension you have, if it's a leaf spring suspension it's okay to jack up and place jack stands under the axle as close to the wheel as possible, if it's a torsion suspension never jack it up or place jack stands under the axels this will bend the axel and it will need to be replaced.

Yes, jack stands on the axle IN THE CORRECT LOCATION will be just fine. The jack stands should be under the point where the axle is attached to the frame. There is no need to pad or block anything. Just don't pinch the wires to the electric brakes.

While you have the tires off, now is the time to pull the hubs and check the brakes and bearings.

Jack it up under the axle and place the stand under it.

The axle is stronger then the frame. The axle is round tubing , the frame is bent steel, it's not boxed or anything.

Jacking under the axle makes getting the wheel off the ground a 1 step process with a few strokes of the jack.

Jacking under the frame means jacking it up to the jacks limit , resetting the frame and jack on Jenge blocks and jacking again until the springs relax and start lifting the axle.

Maybe me? This is what I think of when I hear "axle". Maybe the OP is thinking different for "axle" or you all?
No way I would put that on a jack stand unprotected. Just looking to put a gouge somewhere with steel on steel where the bearings sit.

That is a spindle, the axel is the large round tube between the spindles.
