When my off brand blew on my 08 Flagstaff with less than 5,000 miles on it, the comp. ins covered the trailer and because I had bought 4 new GY Marathon LRD tires, they even waived the deductible. The damage to mine was $1800 and change. I repaired it myself after the body shop ordered a new lower panel for me. I still have about 6' of the panel if you need it, you can have it. I have a friend that can take it to Goshen if you can get it from Goshen to Chgo.

Sometimes the premium increase(s) because you file a claim is(are) more than the claim itself, so beware.

Thanks OldCoot. It's mostly foam and what appears to be Tyvek. I believe I can fix it once home. Very nice of you regardless. You guys are great!

Last year at Goshen someone was selling tires. I didn't pay any attention because I wasn't interested at the time. Does anyone remember what they were selling and what kind of prices they were asking?

This was a fact for all insurers at one time; many (if not most) have accident forgiveness now for "at fault" accidents. USAA has that now too. Did not help me in my fender bender 10 years ago though; a 10% increase in liability and collision (nothing else) for 3 years;then back to normal.

Comprehensive claims are "act of god" stuff (road trash falls in this category) and is not considered a "fault" accident. However (as my grandfather found out), claiming every nickle and dime over the years (windshield cracks, headlight broken, etc) bit him in the butt when my aunt started to drive and had her first accident. His long comprehensive history was added to the one chargeable accident and he found himself and his family in "high risk" all at once.

I sure wish those Goodyear tires were made like they used to be. I bought a used trailer back around `95 (a Layton 2250), and put new Marathons on it immediately.

Now I know it wasn`t that heavy a trailer (3700 dry), but it got towed a lot. Numerous trips to the Black Hills and ND badlands (maybe 11 times), all through western Canada, Montana, Minnesota. etc.

Never had an issue, never had a flat, never put the spare on.

They were still on the trailer when I delivered it to its new owners last Friday.
So if my math is right, you sold a trailer with 19 year old tires on it?

Wow. Rule of thumb is no more than 7 years. You almost tripled that.

Good luck with your new GY tires. But they're not called China bombs without good reason.
Next time you need tires, go with either Maxxis or Kumho ST tires. They're the only ST tires not made in China. Be sure to have your new tires balanced and install steel valve stems.

Don't get your hopes up, they are all made just down the road from China. All ST tires are made in Asia.

Yes, but not all ST tires are created equal. BIG difference.

Don't think anyone implied that they were. Nor are all Chinese made tires junk, depends on the manufacturer. What makes the difference if they are made in Taiwan or China as long as the mfgr has control like GY vs Maxis?

It's sounds like some have had good luck with the Marathons. Maybe it was just a fluke that I lost both of mine.

It very well could be that I did run something over. I didn't see any debris on the road, but you never know.

I believe Walmart sells trailer tires and wheels already mounted and balanced. I'm going to purchase one and put it in the campers storage. I'd feel better with two spares.

Did the tires exceed 60 mph.....under normal towing? Do you think a TPMS would have alerted you before ?

I do not have a TPMS system on this camper. Didn't know you could purchase one. Either way I always check tire pressure and did so right before heading out.

I do not exceed 60-65 mph when towing. Usually the cruise is locked in right at 62mph. Steady as she goes and I'll get there when I get there.

Yes, I am embarrassed to admit that...but I told them how old they were..
Now, the trailer was stored indoors continuously, on a cement floor. If it wasn't being used, it was inside.

No sign of sidewall cracks, and lots of tread left.

Now on my horse trailer, it's a continual rotation. There always seems to be one that needs replacing. I think I have every make discussed on it somewhere. With 3 horses inside it is over 8000 lbs.

Kumho 857... They are the only tires that last well on our and mini vans.

I use the tire minder system on trailer and truck.....it reads out continuous pressure/temperature....and can be set to alarm at pressure and temp you want....so will alarm if increase or decrease.....even though truck has own system I like knowing the temp and not having to put a gauge on the tire.....this old back does not like to bend down if it does not have to....good luck with your new tires.....I drive 56-58 mph..if you are going 62 might be worth it to back down 4 more miles per hour...when I travel the interstates almost all RV s pass me three times on a 4 hour stretch....and I stop at every rest area.....so figure out that math if you can.....
People with TV at limit have to reduce pin or hitch weight that will put more weight on your tires.....ST tires should carry 80% of the max allowable at max pressure if possible.....would not hurt to get a CCAT readout on each axle and each side of trailer
