SunShade for TST Monitor

One of my biggest gripes about the TST tire pressure monitoring system is seeing the color monitor display in brighter conditions.

Evidentially, the folks at TST have had some complaints as well.

Here is something they are offering. I purchased one and it came yesterday.
I'll post back if I see an improvement.

Looks great

If you ever have the opportunity, let us know if it fits onto the EEZ RV tpms.

Hmm, $15.00 for a piece of plastic? I’m thinking one beer and a piece of poster board.

Agreed... a little steep.
Someone with a 3D printer could make a them cheaper I'm sure.

It does look good, not like cardboard, a magic marker and three beers!

I don't have one of those monitors so I'll likely never be able to have that opportunity.

SunShade for TST Monitor

There are a ton of sunshades for the screens on rc drone or FPV controllers, you might find one that would work for your screen size.
Try searching for “FPV monitor sun hood”

Using the included suction cup. I mount mine as high as possible on windshield next to rear view mirror and no problem in the SC sun

YMMV

This monitor has a light sensor to dim the display at night.
If you have tinted windows it will dim in broad daylight.
I wish they would make screen brightness a menu option so you can turn off this sensor. to test shine a flashlight into the sensor hole and you will see what I mean.

A little square of black electrical tape solves your problem.

Mount it? I just throw it in the cup holder and periodically ask my wife to check it. She's never complained about being able to see it.

But in all seriousness, if I kept it on the dash- I could see how this little suncover makes a difference.

Incorrect...Tape over sensor = dark and it dims. You'd have to tape a flashlight onto the sensor....Rethink your engineering please!

mbbutler... you are correct and I've thought about taping a LED light to the sensor hole... or modifying the circuit board. It likely has a photo-electric cell that makes a connection when light is shone on it. I'd bet bridging those points on the circuit board with a drop of solder would accomplish the same.

Anyway... we'll see how the SunShade works.
Obviously it isn't for everybody... or even anybody!

TST 507 3D Printer sunshade

If you have access to a 3D printer I will share file to print a sunshade model that is similar to the TST shade. It is , of course, similar to the one that TST sells since it fits the same device. I've never held the TST shade, and all the measurements to make this shade were from my personal TST 507 Color tire monitor. It's not a copy of the existing product, but it is my attempt to copy the functionality. It has additional ribs and corner fillets to reinforce the potentially weak spots that I saw on some of the pictures. I also added small Velcro loop patches to reduce potential vibration.

I will send the STF printer file by private message to anyone that would like it. You chose how to configure your printer and the slicing of the model-- so it could be much smoother and neater than mine. We just used a fairly quick set of values.

Message me with your contact data here on the forum. The model file is shared under a public-domain, non-commercial use license. That essentially means you can use it and share it, but a product using my model file can't be sold (so as to not anger TST with a commercial knock-off of their similar product). I would just attach the file to this post, but it isn't one of the types supported by the forum software. Message me if you want a copy and I will reply privately.

I have designed 2 different 3D printable shades for my TST 507, they are here:

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5903026

I also needed a downward angle at the end of the mount, so I designed this angled adapter:
