Tire load ratings

Hi all. I have a 2015 Wildwood 32bhds. My tires were manufactured in 2014 and I am thinking it is time to replace them. I have noticed however that the factory tires appear to be under the gvwr. The factory tires are rated for 2,540lbs x 4 = 10,160lbs. My trailer dry weight per the sticker is 7,707 and max cargo is 3,184 for a total of 10,891lbs. This appears to leave the tire capacity short by 731lbs.

While I do not think we load the camper with 3,000lbs I still find this bothersome. Anyone else notice this with their rigs?

I am thinking I will look for a higher load capacity replacement.

About 900 pounds of that dry weight is on the hitch which will need to be deducted or added to your tire load calcs depending on how you look at it. The original tires appear to be properly rated. Good idea to make that tire change now.

As woo10-210 mentioned, a portion of that weight is carried by the truck (tongue/pin weight). The axles/tires carry a portion of the trailer's total weight.

However if you can find a tire in a higher load range for a higher safety margin, that's usually a good thing to do.

Let us know what tire size, rating, and brand you decide to use.

Keep forgetting about it and get tires to cover the full weight plus 20% . that Truck carries the weight argument is a bunch of C . it does when sitting still but once you head down the road hitting bumbs and dips there are times when the full weight of TT is on the TT tires Plus more when you consider extra inertia caused by bumps and dips in the road
