Tires for Class C
It's time to put some new tires on the rig. I have a 3051S Forester and looking for advice. I've always had good luck working with Big-O but also looking for alt. recommendations.
While talking to the local guys they recommended a Mesa A/P2. I've never heard of them but since I'm getting 6 tires, I'd like to keep the cost down.
thoughts?
Thanks,
Greg

just for cost comparison sake I like looking at tirerack dot com... there you can look at a number of different tire makers using the tire size that you need and read some reviews that may help

In my opinion don't cheap out on tires, get the best price but also get the best made. How old are your tires? When I have to cross that bridge I will be looking at Michlen I always had good luck with them.

You can have them Witch Dr. Had too many problems with them. 2 sets, that's 12 tires! And I don't need to hear all the BS. I do all that and then some!

First set I found out later were recalled for a problem. Had them replaced with what was good numbers and the same results. That was trying to come home this year.

I have had two Class C rigs for over 20 years. I used the Michelin XPS Rib tires. Never had a problem. A little pricey, but lots of piece of mind when traveling.

Looks like the Defender is the same tire as has been used for new rigs in the past. I did not get even 5 years out of mine. Tread separation at 21,000 miles. No more Michelins for me.

Check out general grabber HT. They have a 90 psi rating for a little more margin on weight than the original Michelin’s.

I have used the Firestone Transport tires on my unit for about 20,000 miles now. I am very satisfied with them.

I immediately put on a set of Michelin’s at Costco for traveling vs the continentals that came Oem and 30000 + in the last yr with not even a flat on roads all over the ALCAN and lower 48 Plus they give a great warranty. I have a dynamax isata 3 plus I’ve run them on my numerous dodge trucks Never even a flat 👍

Ran about 33K mikes on the original Continentals. Had a set of Michelins installed by Costco - those lasted about 55K Miles. No tire issues - but I did have two valve stem failures with the Michelins. Costco installed “high pressure snap in” valves - rubber snap in valves with metal cores or liners. Costco said their metal bolt-in valves would not fit in the Mercedes wheels. Two failed. I had them replaced by a different shop with metal bolt-ins after the second one failed (both failed by cracking at the rim “snap-in” section; tire shop theorized they may have been damaged when they were installed).
I recently installed another set of Michelins - bought from tirerack.com. After I picked them out, I called a local shop here and asked if they would install (none of tirerack.com’s installers were convenient and I wanted to ensure my bolt-in valves continued to be used). Although they were not listed as an installer by tirerack.com, they were willing to do the job at a reasonable price. Had the tires shipped directly to them - worked out well.
If I were to do it again, I would use the tirerack.com plus my chosen installer approach again, and might consider Hankooks. I have a set on my passenger car - less expensive than Michelins and seem fine.

GREGA,
Michelins have been good to me as well and most recently (2016) put Defender LTX M+S LT235R16 on my 04 F-350 dually, $1380, local dealer, all in, including disposal. Be sure to check dates on tires. They'll try to slip old stock past you if your not paying attention. One thing, I recently found on my wife's car. Didn't pay attention to the tire pressure (monthly or so). When the temperature cooled recently her tire pressure alarm finally went off. Found tire pressure way low and edges of tires worn more than should be. Ooops. I don't neglect tire pressure on the fiver and truck though. Now have TPMS. Michelins are not cheap, agreed, but I rather not take a chance on no name bargain tires.

You are the first person that I have heard of that is using the XPX tires. After much consideration and study, I too chose the XPS tire. Currently have about 3k on them on our New England tour. So far, no issues and I have fell into some teeth jarring, dish rattling, dog barking potholes. So far, I like them.
