Torsion Flex Axles

Are there any downsides to the torsion Flex axles? Age of the rubber tubes , I'm not sure how long they've been out to even know of the lifespan performance. Anybody ever have issues? I'm not having any.

I had a single axle Lance TT (model 1575) before my current Mini Lite. There were issues with the axles being a bit light and sagging after a few years. I had mine replaced with a bit beefier one, and then promptly sold it. Some owners actually had tires rubbing through the wheel well liners due to the sagging. There was a pretty big stink about it. My Mini Lite has Torsion Flex, is a 2019 and has had no issues (fingers crossed)..

Torsion Flex Axles

Our previous TT had the Torsion Flex Axle. It was 10 years old when it needed to be replaced. Not a big job but the original installation had them welded to the frame members. I didn't want to cut it loose and fabricate a proper mounting system. From what I read, welding is not an approved or recommended mounting method.

I was able to add some support using coil springs obtained from an auto junkyard. Worked OK for several more years. Should have added some shocks to each side to tame the bouncing. We then sold the trailer. Guess it is still on the road.

Mine has them. No issues so far. Except one... The time-tested method of jacking up one wheel for changing a flat by running the other wheel on the same side up on a ramp or chock no longer works. Ya gotta jack it up, and you really shouldn't do it on the axle tube. My floor jack will get in there, but it barely engages the trailing arm. I've never felt entirely comfortable jacking this unit up with it.

Cowracer: I use this for changing a tire and it works great on my Mini Lite. No jack needed.

We're talking torsion axles here.
I have one of those and like Cowracer, it doesn't lift the 2nd axle of a torsion set-up.

I jack on the bracket that bolts to the frame and never felt unsafe.

I've had torsion axles now for 7 years on the Flagstaff and no issues.

5picker: That's interesting because I have dual Dexter Torflex axles on my Mini Lite and the Trailer Aid works great for me. It may have something to do with the spacing of the axles? My tires are pretty close together.

I might be the difference between the Trailer Aid and the Trailer Aid Plus. I know it's only a 1" difference in lift, but a big deal if you need that extra inch.

I have a 2018 Micro Lite 21DS, and the Trailer Aid Plus works for me.

The Plus is also what I have.

If you know a farmer or have Amish living near you, ask and see if they want your old tires. They are still good for hay wagons and the like.
