TPMS Choices

Our new Salem 233RBXL is a two axle lightweight with Castle Rock ST205/75/14D tires. I check the 65psi pressure before every tow but want to purchase a TPMS to keep watch while on the road. I would like for the system to have a almost instant alert in the case of a pressure change or overheat.

I have looked at many threads that cover this subject but cannot seem to find recommendations on a good system that will suit our needs. I do not need a system that will monitor 20 tires or one that sends out emails and alerts to our email. I do need a reliable system that will alert us quickly while driving. We probably have room around the truck dash for another monitor but the monitor needs a noise alert since we already have the built in Chevy screens and the Rear observation screen

Our tow vehicle has it's own system so what I want is for the trailer tires only.

Can anyone recommend a nice system we can use for these four tires while towing?
Thanks....

Lots of great posts on this subject with success stories. I just went through the same thing with our trailer.
I bought the TST system. Only towed with it once so far but seems to be very accurate with both pressure and temperature.
A friend of mine has the Tireminder system and likes it very much.
There are others but those two seem to be the most go to brands for most people.

I have 2.
TST 507
Zeepin Solar
There's about a $200 difference in price but the performance is similar.
If you've only got 4 tires, at $50 you've got little to loose by trying the Zeepin.

Thanks, I saw some great posts about the TST 507 and their Customer Service but you are spot on about the price difference. It's quite a big spread!

I have the TST 507 Flow-Thru sensors.....even though they cycle through each tire sensor and then starts over again and again, the reading you get on the monitor from the sensor only updates with new readings about every two minutes....finding a system that has an instant response, I don't know of one......I've been running the TST system now for 4 years with no problems and have upgraded to the color monitor.

I have the TST507 with 4 sensors and repeater. It will alarm immediately if there is a fast leak, see page 7 of manual. I had a tire side bubble blow out and it did alarm me right away.

Thanks for pointing that out....had not known that but fortunately have never had any issues where this came into play....so, back to the OP, our TST systems will give instant response....GREAT!!....BTW, You won't find a better customer service than TST.

I just picked up my second TPMS system a couple weeks ago. I went with the TST 507 and color monitor. I am happy with it. The replaceable batteries in the sensors was a big selling point for me. I has a different system in the past with non-replaceable batteries so you had to buy new sensors at 40 bucks each. Something to think about when looking for a TPMS system.

I have had the TST system for a couple of years now and love the down the road confidence that such a system brings to me. The TST 507 system that I have is Non flow through type sensors so the batteries are user replaceable. The system does update the status of the tire on a rotational basis every 30 to 40 seconds. If you have a problem the notification is very quick as you want and does include an audible alarm. The TST customer service is top notch.

My TST 507 "flow-through" sensors also have replaceable batteries. I changed them all before this RV season.

Whichever TPMS system you get, make sure you get one with the color monitor. I bought mine without and regret it now. It's very difficult to read unless you really focus on it and that's not practical or safe when driving down the highway.

So I will share my recent TPMS experience. I am just stating the facts as it happened to me and is verifiable. Anyway, about 11 months ago I purchased a TPMS from Tire-Safety (purchased through Amazon) for my 5er. In short, it worked for about 2-3 days. I attempted to call their tech support many, many, many times. After about 10 months of pain with this and getting to talk to their "support guy" only twice in all that time there was no real attempt to help me. Amazon tried everything they could to get TS to help me, but they never provided help, just accusations and empty promises. The good news is is that I have finally gotten a refund, oh not from Tire-Safety, but from Amazon. Had to get that off my chest. So, this is a cautionary note to anyone who would contemplate a TMPS purchase, here's your sign.

As a long time Amazon Prime Buyer I quickly learned that it was so much easier to just ask for a refund from Amazon. I have only had to do this a few times (the latest being yesterday) but it is effective, quick and probably much better that attempting to reach the manufacturer.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up on the Tire Safety Model.

I'm glad you posted this as I have been tempted by a TST 507SE selling on eBay pretty cheap. I was wondering about how effective the Monochrome display would be.
Thanks for the post.

BTW, welcome from Georgia. As in most products, getting a good one is half of it. Getting good after market support is the other half.

I have a OLD Pressure Pro, can’t remember how old it is but it’s OLD. Only on the second set of sensors and for a few years we were on the road 8 months so I consider the life exceptional. Love being able to read the tire pressure when I get in the seat. Had 2 others, trying to avoid the cost of 10 PP batteries. One was a Tire Tracker, the other one similar. They would not operate constantly, an customer service was nonexistent.

Does anyone make a rechargeable one that will last ~8 hrs between charges ?

Ive had an EZZTire system going on 3 years without problems. Changed batteries this month with harbor freight disc batteries and seems good as ever. $279 with 4 tire coverage expandable to 18. No been for a repeater on a 30’ trailer hooked to an 8’ bed truck.

On the issue of price, there are lots of units that sell for a lot less than others. What is important is ALL of what the more expensive units do and it's not always just that they can monitor all the tires on a semi with dozens of tires.

I looked at a huge number of TPMS units before buying my TST 507 with Color Monitor. Like the OP, my TV came with a TPMS but it only sets off a "Chime" when the pressure drops to a default percentage of recommended tire inflation. No Temp readings, No Real Time pressure readings no explaination of why the warning. Because the TST 507 does all this I'm considering the addition of 4 more sensors so I can see ALL of what the truck tires are doing. Sometimes heat will be the first sign a tire is going to fail and low pressure alarm is too late. Heat can be caused by overloading or mechanical issues (dragging break, hot bearing) so it's nice to have that feature onboard.

I figured I'd bite the bullet and shed tears over the price once. I've been down the road of buying on the basis of price and later kicked myself in the backside for not just going with the one that was recommended by so many people in the first place.

As for having a lot already on the dash, the TST monitor can be secured to a visor and as long as you charge the internal battery once every 5 days or so it doesn't need a dedicated or continuous power source. I just take mine into the trailer when I'm parked for a day or so and plug it into one of the many USB charging outlets my TT has.

Another happy TST 507 user. The two systems that tend to get overall high marks are TST and TireMinder. To protect an expensive investment, don't cheap out on your TPMS.
