Westlake tires

Did a search for Westlake tires and saw 3 tear year old threads. Our 2020 Cedar Creek Hathaway 38DBRK came with H rated Westlake tires. Was wondering how they are holding up with other folks.

Will I can only speak for myself with my 2016 Cedar Creek. I purchased this trailer in the late spring of 2015 and I am the original owner. The tires are by the date code 5 years old this spring and have 25,000 towing miles on them. I am planning on replacing them this year as they have aged out. I will be replacing them with another set of Westlake G rated tires.

I check every trip to ensure that they have the proper air pressure in them. I also run my hand over them at the start of each day for towing to insure there are no cracks and or any other debris in them when towing. They are check for tire temps approximately every two hours by an IFR gun and they are within reasonable tire temps between them on each side. They have served me will.

My Westlakes are over a year old, between 1 and 2 thousand miles, like new. They are aggressive tread paired with my off-road camper package. So far no problems, I use a TPMS, keep 'em covered when sitting in driveway. My camper is not nearly as heavy as yours, only a single axle unit.

I believe those are what we have on our Rockwood. Maybe 16,000kms on them with good tread remaining. They've done well. I'll run them one more summer.

I had 3 years and about 8000 miles on mine. I was going to go another year, but I cut a corner too sharp in a construction zone and bounced one side over a curb causing a sidewall bubble, so I replaced them with some Carlisle's. Happy with them so far.

I ran the Westlakes for 4 years before getting new tires. Never had a problem with them and still looked like new.

We purchased a new 2019 Riverstone 39RKFB in April 2019 with Westlake 17.5 H rated tires. Started on our westward trip in October and noticed 3 of the tires sidewalls were seperating at a rest area. No, we aren't overweight, have weight slips showing we're 1000# under. Stopped in Springfield, Ill at Pomps tire. Westlake wouldn't warranty them so we replaced them with Sailuns. We're not speedster either as we found out by the Pomps tire that the Westlake 17.5 H rated tires are only good for speeds to 62 mph. The G's are good to 75. The Sailun H tires are good to 75. Not saying Westlake tires aren't good but he careful with the H rated ones if you're ones of those 75mph plus drivers. JMO

Blew a G rated Westlake on our Hathaway last New Years. Tire less than two years old. 8,000 miles.

Lost my mind. Replaced them with Goodyear’s the next morning. Decent price. The best service. A commercial tire store.

Top of the tire just fell off.

I drive under 65 and check air often. Tire monitors. DW heard the explosion.

I thought the G rated Westlakes were, serviceable for three years. Mine were not.

Did not use Good Sam to replace the tires. They botched the changing of the tire. Their price for a new tire, China bomb, was an additional $470. Goodyear’s were $350 each, balanced. 614’s.

We didn't have 1500 miles on ours. We too use tire monitors but always look them over whenever we stop. Our cost was just under $1000.

Back in 2007, the CR857 tire was recalled by the importer. Guessing the newer ones are better.

Ours will have the same tires on it. And, they're not trailer tires, nearest I can tell. Which makes me wonder if finding a passenger or light truck tire with a load rating suitable for a 3800lb gross weight trailer would be ok. I've been looking around, and there are lots of tires that are >2000lb load rating that aren't trailer tires. I even see some in the 2200lb range, 50psi. I know the sidewalls aren't as stiff as a trailer tire, which is the only downside I can see.

Ok, so I've deciphered the Westlake code on my CR857+ tires. Sort of. Because you can't find this tire ANYWHERE for sale online, and here it is over a year since I bought my trailer. Heck, they're not even listed on the Westlake website!

The ST before the 235/75 R15 stands for 'special trailer'. Stronger sidewalls. Max speed on sidewall is 75mph. Max load 2304lbs at 50 psi.

Looks like I will have to find a different brand after all when it's time to replace.

Yikes! A 'G' speed rating is only 56mph! I can't even imagine that is suitable for highway driving. If you drive 56 mph on NJ highways, you're going to get killed!

Something not right here. H rating is under sports car and sports sedan tires, rated at 130 mph. G is only rated to 56mph. My Westlake L rated tires are good to 75 mph.

Maybe one of our resident tire experts can clarify, but I thought the letter was for the speed rating, and the load rating is numerical.

**I just found where G and H load ratings applied to truck tires. However, that is not the speed rating.

Well, you can have B, C, D, E load ratings for a general capability.. but the numerical load rating is more precise, and then the speed rating letter afterwards. And then there's ZR speed rated tires which just means "at least 149 mph", and above that are W and Y speed ratings for 168 and 186 mph. Yea, I have a car I have to worry about "above 149" speeds.

My 2020 RPod has Westlake ‘C’ rated tires on it. Loaded the trailer weighs 3200#. The tires are new (stock) with nice tread. Am I dumb to want to get some good miles out of them? I drive 60mph max (“I’m retired, go around me”) and take the trailer on dirt Forest roads with some rocks in the roadbed.
