Wheel Bearing question

I got some info from my previous post. I called a local recommended Automotive place and they told me that, unfortunately, they do not work on RV's anymore due to space limitations. They did recommend me to a local RV dealer (which I knew about.) Before hanging up though the guy asked me if I had pre-lubed bearings on my trailer. I told him the last time I packed a wheel bearing was 60 years ago when I worked at my Uncles gas station in McFarland, CA. He said I could bring it buy and they would take a look at it and add the grease if necessary. So, Question (1) My trailer is a 2021 Della Terra 230RB..it has double axles. Does it come with the prepacked bearings?

Yes they are supposed to be prepacked but many owners have found insufficient grease from the factory. They might just pump some grease in if you have ez lube axles, but if done carelessly they could pop the seal and you'll be paying to redo it all next summer when you find you have minimal braking.

Take a look at your wheel hubs. If there is a removable cap on them, then you probably have Nev-r-lube hubs. You may have them even if there isn't a removable cap, but less likely. With these hubs, you can hand pump grease into the hub. Wheel needs to be off the ground, spin the wheel while adding grease, and DO NOT use a power grease gun - you'll blow out the rear seal.

It will look something like one of these:

If you don't have Nev-r-lube hubs, then you need to hand pack the bearings which requires removing the wheels.

I believe you are describing the EZ-Lube systems.

Nev-R-Lube hubs have sealed bearings just like front wheel bearings on most cars/trucks today. Bearings CAN'T be lubed and when problems occur the bearing assembly is replaced.

You are correct on the EZ-Lube axles. Only grease when wheel is off ground and wheel turned when adding grease with a HAND grease gun.

Don't you mean EZ-lube hubs?

Try a local trailer shop. Even the guys that work on Semi trailers will likely be able to help.

Most RV Dealers are insane on service.

They make bearing that don't need service. Depends on your axle. When I researched my Dexter axle online, I noticed they have axles with maintenance free bearings.

Those are the Nev-R-Lube axles.

An earlier poster mentioned Nev-R-Lube then proceeded to explain how to grease them which triggered this portion of the discussion.

I assume yours has 3500 lbs. axles. They are probably EZ lubes so why not just check them yourself?
