Wiring hanging by wheels

Hello everyone. I don't know if this is normal or not since neither of us is mechanically inclined but....We have a new 2018 Rockwood 8289 5er. I noticed when looking at the underbelly that there is wiring hanging down by the wheels on the inside. Looks like they have those wire nuts on them but seems to me they should not just be hanging down. They hang about 12 inches off the ground. Any advice?

Does it go into the brake (inside the rim)? It is most likely your electric brake wires.

Yes, I think so. I can't quite fit underneath but was able to take pics. Looks like they are for brakes but should they just hang there? Or should they be zip tied up somehow...or is slack required. One would think they would get dirty, leading to compromised or snag on something.

those are the brake wires, and they need a bit of slack to allow for suspension movement

Probably the wiring for your electric brakes. I noticed it on my new trailer when I first got it. I took pictures for my collection of shocking slop the RV industry considers standard practice that in any other universe would land people in jail for being so callous with human life. This isn't a FR trailer, but I'm sure they do it too although I don't remember seeing that on our old R-Pod.

Is it possible the wires are to the slide out. If so, the plastic bracket has broken.

So this is what ours looks like. And I think you are right. It does look rather sloppy. Thanks for the help. First time attaching photos. Hope this works.

That looks a lot better than the wiring on my trailer. At least the wire is attached to the frame at one point. Mine just drops out of nowhere and almost sits on top of the leaf spring. In my opinion, in both of our cases the wire should be in flexible conduit. A piece of road debris at the wrong time could easily take out our brakes.

Light Blue color is electric brakes, and as mentioned they need room to swing as the suspension moves.

Any other wires should be properly attached to the frame, but many times are not on FR products due to sloppy work.

Sharon, looks like you have the weatherproof electrical connectors that FR is using on the
Brakes on units. Make better connection than older wire twist system, saw then at seminar In Goshen this summer FR put on

Timely Thread.
This afternoon I was laying under my new 2018 Wildcat taping those wires together, especially where they contact the shackles. I used electrical tape. Like the rest of you I did not like the way they hung down and I could see them rubbing thru as they whipped around in the wind.
I also foamed those areas a little better. In reading the threads on mice I had been under the trailer looking for openings and one of the axles where the wires went up into the underbelly had a hole there. The other three locations were all sealed well.

IMHO and for what its worth the connection should be hanging from the rig frame not from the suspension. Hanging from the wheel as shown will cause early failure of the braking system because of all the bouncing it will do while going down the road. Failure can cause loss of brakes in one wheel or if the wires short together it could cause issue with other wheels or the controller itself.

I replaced all my brake assemblies and one of the magnets were defective (actually showed a short if I remember correctly) and consequently none of my brakes would work. I finally had to cut the wire on that wheel brake to allow the other three to function until I could get to a safe place to repair the defective one. While 3 wheel brakes isn't ideal it was better than not having any to assist stopping the rig.

I recommend relocating the connection closer to where it penetrates the frame, tie wrapping the connector shown to the frame would also be a good idea. Use small crimp type connections to extend the existing wiring from the wheel enough to allow suspension movement mentioned earlier.
