Breaker keeps tripping.
Hey all, I am new to the camper world.
We just purchased a 1998 36' Cardinal 5th wheel camper. All excited to check it all out and get ready to camp
I recently installed an outlet, to plug it in at the house.
I flip the power breaker on inside the camper, the lights come on for just a couple seconds, and the breaker flips. I also have a noise I wasn't expecting when I flip it on.
I am hoping that this is something simple. Anyone have any ideas?
I appreciate your thoughts and help in advance.

Is your trailer a 30 or 50 amp plug?

In the house or the trailer?

There's a short circuit that's what's causing the buzzing. If I was still working with the tools when I showed up at your place I'd ask you where was the last place anyone did any electrical work? Who was the one that put the outlet in for the camper?

Your RV receptacle that was installed at the house, is it hook up to 120 AC single pole breaker or 240 AC double pole breaker from the distribution panel?

I did. I ran 6-3 wire from a 50 amp double breaker to the plug box. I had electrical advice, but now I'm starting to wonder.

Is your receptacle on your house a 30 amp 3 prong or a 50 amp 4 prong as in post #7?

Unless you have a 50A outlet and are using a 50-30 RV adapter, unplug the camper and do not plug it in until it is fixed.
Do you have a volt meter? Are you comfortably working around live power? Who installed the outlet? A picture of the outlet will help too.

Not to poke fun but often the most expensive advice is free advice.
If you aren't familiar or comfortable with electricity and 120 vs 240 volt circuits I'd suggest a visit from a licensed electrician who understands RV's.

Then I assume you used 2 of the 3 wires to the breaker. 1 to common and one to ground.
It should be a 30A single pole with 1 hot to the breaker, 1 to the common and 1 to ground.
How did you wire it to the outlet? As 2 30A RV outlet is only 3 connections. Please post a picture of the outlet.
Don't plug the camper back in until this is resolved and hope for minimal damage

Well that is your issue. It should be wired to 120 volts single pole breaker as in post #7. Don't plug your RV anymore until it is rectified and then tackle the trailer after for possible damages to some equipment eg: converter, TV etc etc.

Good advice except I have seen a number of threads where people hired an electrician that claimed to know what they were doing and it was still wired wrong.

That's why I included the "familiar with RV's" part.
Like car mechanics, not all electricians are created equal.
