Question Freshwater Tank Banging

Hello all,

I purchased a used 2016 Cardinal a couple months ago and have just filled the freshwater tank for the first time.

I have a meter on the incoming line so I know how much water I was putting in the tank. The specs say my 3250 RL has a 64 gallon Freshwater tank but I started getting banging sounds and overflow when I reached 40 gallons and turned it off.

The meter on the panel shows full. Trying to determine why I seem to only have a 40 gallon tank instead of a 4 gallon tank like the manual specs say I should have.

TIA

You might try filling it a little slower. The 'banging' could be caused by trapped air.
Do you have more than one fresh water tank? Frequently, they'll install 2 tanks and list the total amount as the capacity.

Not sure about the two tanks. The bottom of the rig is completely enclosed and it's over 110 degrees in Vegas right now so I am not inclined to get under the rig and dismantle the insulation right now.

There is only one point to fill the rig from, I do know that. The water control panel with all the colored levers the fresh water connection and the black tank flush connection is the only place I am aware that I can fill the tank from.

The fresh water tank fill is the only way to get water into the fresh water tank.

I'm hoping someone with your rig will know the answer. Right now it seems like you've got less than a 40 gal. tank.

First off, the manufacturer counts the 12 gallons of water in the water heater towards the total capacity. My 2017 is a 40 gallon tank fyi.

Correct, if the Cardinal came with a 12 gallon water heater, that gallonage is included in the total so now you are at 52 gallons.

I would fill SLOWLY and see if you possibly pushed some water in the overflow by filling too quickly. You often can fill MUCH quicker (with pressure) than the overflow can vent. I've seen a couple bulged floors and bent braces from ballooning the tank!

Also the sensors are less than accurate.
When I fill my R/V and use out of the fresh tank, it will continue to read full until I've used about 10 gallons just because of the position of the sensors on the tank.

Sometimes the factory changes things in the middle of production. They never upgrade the brochure or online specs until the next years model.

Thanks. This I did not know. Still curious where the other 12 gallons is. 40 in the fresh tank, 12 in the Water Heater is 52, 12 short of the stated 64. Can't believe the other 12 gallons would be in the lines.
