Propane leak
Pulled into in the RV lot after work (full timing it) and heard a faint beeping. Three beeps in a row to be exact. Looked around at the other RVs but something told me it was coming from my trailer.
I walked along the right side of the trailer from the rear to the door and I could distinctly smell propane. I opened the door and confirmed it was indeed my trailer that was beeping. The CO/Propane alarm was going off. I didn't really smell the propane inside the trailer so I went outside to the bottles. I opened the top lid of the white cover and heard a hissing sound. The smell of propane was really distinct here. I concluded that the pigtail that connects the bottle to the regulator had failed. It had failed right behind the nut at the crimp. Shut the propane off and vented the trailer. All is well now. Part on order.
Things happen for a reason. I had recently driven home and gave my cat to my daughter so luckily my cat was not inside the trailer. I don't think it was enough propane odor to cause harm but I wouldn't want to find out.
I never really thought about turning off the propane bottles everyday. Would that be the only way to prevent this?
Any Suggestions?
Thanks for reading my story. It is pretty boring out here.
