Gas struts and actuator

Hi backpacker3, just bought used a213hw rockwood. As soon as we got it home the actuator failed. We brought it to a fellow who has installed a lot of aliner gas struts. He gave up and suggested installing two actuators and replacing bungee cord. He said the motor in the actuator worked but it had been stripped and had rust. He also suggested turning the actuator upside down to prevent water from getting in. You would have to have a longer cord that was secured. Do you still think 60 lb struts and 1 actuator a good idea? Thank you for your input.

Great info! I've been trying to figure out a way to replace the actuator for a few years... I'm on #2 and it, just like the original, has failed.
I wanted to inquire why the struts aren't placed on the rear roof section. Wouldn't it help with lowering the roof and take stress off of the bungees? I would think that eventually, the bungees will fatigue and/ or break.
