A-Frame Camping trip to Vegas
My wife and I made a trip out to the Las Vegas area for a two-night camping trip this weekend. Besides hunting, my other outdoor hobby is geocaching. My wife loves it too.
We stayed in the BLM Red Rock campground. There are no hookups, but there are bathrooms. Each site has a table, a fire pit, and a barbecue. Each site also has a "sandbox" which is the only place that you are allowed to pitch a tent. This is the desert so there is no shade. Some of the sites have a steel shade ramada. Our site did not. We were quite lucky to find an open site when we arrived early Saturday afternoon. The lack of a shade ramada was no problem for us because I always have my accordion-frame shade canopy packed in the trailer.
Since the Red Rocks is a popular rock climbing spot, the campground is over-run with the climbing crowd. There are some RVs there, but a lot of the spots are filled with tent campers.
We woke up early on Sunday morning to go to a non-motorized area with our mountain bikes. We did a couple miles of riding and a couple of miles of hiking to find 41 geocaches by lunchtime. Then it was back to camp to relax for the rest of the day. We got up again very early on Monday morning to pack up camp and hit the road. Five driving hours later we were pulling into our driveway back home. We stayed away from the casinos! Fun weekend.
