Question for handbuilder about lock box

Could you explain parts and maybe even supply a picture for this comment you made in #31 of this thread? I would love to stow keys safely when hiking.
Thanks!

This is a good idea but I decided to bring a couple of keys with me all the time, one for the SUV and the main trailer key, the rest of the keys I leave inside the locked trailer or SUV. Here is what I found and I may get one soon: http://www.factorydirect.ca/Canada-O...749694552227/0
Put the main key here and the the rest in a secret place inside the trailer. Combination lock may be broken.
Just in case a key gets misplace, I have all the spare trailer keys inside a secret placed inside my TV.
I now have close to a dozen keys for my trailer and extra locks...lol
I'm also curious what HB has...

Hi Wayfaringgirl - thanks for asking. Here are a couple photos of the lock. I have used it with my Jayco travel trailer since 2005 and now it is in use with the Flagstaff.
I have kept another on my property fencing since 2002 - for lockout accidents (thank goodness) as Ive had to access it twice over the years.
It has rubber casing around it which helps prevent the lock from dinging or scratching up the surface it lays against - in my case, possibly the trailer wall if used on the handle. I prefer to pit it inder the step, under the door, under the trailer (if not using with the gwnerator cable)
Like any lock, with the right tool or force - it can be broken or cut with effort. Happy to report that for RV use, it hasnt happened yet. Of course, as others point out, a thief merely needs a screwdriver and they have access via storage compartment....the walls are thin and seriously, the A Frame windows are not hard to break into. The lockbox is typically used to secure the cable around the generator to the trailer.
I purchased this lock from Home Depot for around $30-. It has some incredible strength of durability & warranty. As I said, its been years since I purchased them. It is a residential lock box. I figured if realtors use lock boxes, why not try for a tin can RV. haha

You might also consider a Hitchsafe Key Vault by Frank Martin Co.
It is a small combination safe that slides into your hitch receiver. Mostly good reviews and can be bought from Cabelas or Amazon.

Nothing dramatic really--I've had five sailboats, five motorcycles, and this is my third camper. Each of them absolutely required me to spend a fortune on extra goodies, right up until I got tired of them and went to the next thing. Sad, really, but I haven't learned my lesson even yet.

I looked at the Hitchsafe as well, but wondered how hard it was to install and remove each time. Anybody have experience using the Hitchsafe?

The hitch safe was $99 on Amazon. That is too much for me to guard a few low value keys. Plus it would mean having to remove and replace the hitch ball every time. I like the idea of shackling a key lock underneath the trailer for emergencies.
After camping in my Niagara for several years I was lubing the lift system and found a magnetic key container stuck to the frame, left by a previous owner. Those things are notoriously unreliable and I was surprised it was still there.

For $100 I think it is worth it, my bumper to bumper warranty is only good for 7 years and I planned to keep my A128S forever. The lifetime warranty is only for the original owner.

Is this part of the 1 year extended warranty? I paid for that when I purchased, but I don't remember anything about a lifetime thing (paperwork is buried somewhere).

If you paid $100 to FR, then yes but it is a 3 years extended for parts and labour and lifetime for parts non transferable. Better call FR and check your records with them, they will need your vin number.
Good luck!

Can anyone tell me where the CO2 battery is located on the A122. Just opened her up for first time after winter. Everything looks good, except for battery chirps. Smoke alarm was easy to replace. I assume the remaining chirp is CO2. Thank you.

This what I got for my 2012 A128S and it uses the main battery:
If you hear beep then this is indicating your main battery is low.
We have to remind ourselves to replace this unit after 5 years at our expense....boo
I actually got a battery operated CO2 for backup detector because this gas can kill us in our sleep:
I got this for my birthday gift from my brother so my family feels safe for me on my trips out there...

Yes, did you ever check your main battery charge level? Make sure to charge it to full all the time to prolong its life to the max. It should be over 12.6 volts to be considered 100% charged. To prevent over charging it, pull out the external battery fuse after it is fully charged.
The way I find out the built in charger did its job is by using a watt meter connected between the RV power cord and the outlet, when it reads below 20 watts, at this point everything that needs power is idle ie: fridge reached the desired temp and the battery is fully charged. Make sure all the internal devices are turned off; at this point I pull out the battery fuse.
This is how I set up my watt meter:
It is indicating that the fridge and other devices in the RV is currently using 184 watts. After 200 hours plugged in, it recorded 27.27 kwh total electric usage but this includes charging my ebikes everyday. The other device is a timer to prevent overcharging the ebikes batteries.

In my last trip when I'm not using any water, the water pump goes on/off for a few seconds every after several minutes, is this normal or I have a leak somewhere? I have looked around the water system and it is dry.
For now I turn off the water pump after I'm done with it.

I wonder if maybe your hot water heater might not be completely full.

A leak is one possibility. Another possibility is a bad pump that is letting water back into the line to the tank.
From your post, I assume the cycling will keep going as long the pump is turned on. If you haven't already, set it up at home when it is dry outside and follow the plumbing everywhere to eliminate leakage as a possibility. If it is leaking you will eventually see water somewhere.

You are losing pressure in the water system
There are 3 things to check.
1) The faucets - any drips will slowly bleed off pressure prompting the pump to run.
2) The city water inlet one way check valve (if you have one) - a slow leak here will cause water to drip down the side of the camper.
3) The water pump itself (my guess) - There is an internal check valve that can bleed pressure back into the fresh water tank. No water will be seen since it flows right back into the tank.
Cheap fix - install a new exterior one way check valve on the input side of the water pump CVT-050 - Honeywell-Sparco CVT-050 - 1/2" Female NPT x 1/2" Male NPT Check Adapter for AM-1 NPT valves
or
SHURflo 340-001 In-Line Check Valve : Amazon.com : Automotive
Middlin' fix - rebuild kit for your water pump.
SHURFLO Check Valve Kit at West Marine
Or
Replace the head assembly http://compare.ebay.com/like/1609878...Types&var=sbar
or
The most expensive - replace the pump.

Ours sometimes does it. This trip, no problems. I think it may be trapped air the system. Like you, when it cycles too much, I just switch it off.
