I guess that answers that question!

The question being, do I remove the little used microwave oven to gain much needed cabinet space?

When I opened up to unpack the camper this morning, the microwave oven door was on the floor. The roads I drove on yesterday, that probably caused the door to break were bumpy, but not bad at all and I kept the speed down. Certainly no worse than many roads before it.

So now my paper towel storage box doesn't have a door and can't be used as microwave either. These microwaves are not well made for A Frames nor are they installed well. Mine came loose from the metal frame a few times and the frame came loose from the cabinet because of the poor installation. The microwave wasn't fully sitting on the shelf beneath it.

I solved those problems but the door has still often come open in travel. The oven should have a thumb latch or much tighter springs to hold the door closed.

My suspicion would be the door came open and "swung open" too hard and broke the hinge. YMMV

Id agree but would also point out that big a** handle could gain enough inertia during a bounce for the door to open on it's own. (which the OP mentioned happens)

Poor choice of a microwave for in a R/V.

For me it was just the removal of four screws and it should pull out, not sure about the power though. I only pulled mine out briefly to examine the electronics behind.

More cabinet space is a good thing. I'll just have to go back to jiffy pop at the campfire.

I've been considering this too. I'm sure people on this forum have come up with some clever ideas for that space. Time to dig around!

I'm pulling my microwave come spring. Maybe Forrest river will sell me a matching cabinet door.

One clever solution has been to use a small cargo net. I liked that idea because of the large swing space needed for a door wide enough to cover the entirety of the microwave slot opening. It is much larger than the actual microwave door.

Yeah I saw that and liked it too. I might give that a go this weekend.

I'd say look for a cargo net for motorcycles. The should fit the opening real good and should be easy to mount with plastic wire clamps. GOOD LUCK!

My microwave door fell off too. I put it back on the hinges and used Gorilla tape to keep it there. I use a bungee cord when traveling to prevent it from swinging out.
We don't need the space for shelving as we have two units of "rides on the floor/put in place when we get there" shelving. One goes over the microwave table, and one goes across the sink/stove side. A veritable abundance of shelving!

We pretty much do the same as Tipper...... we use two pieces of blue (painters) masking tape to secure the microwave door when traveling. The blue masking tape holds the door shut and does not leave any tape residue.

Our microwave has also come loose twice and I've had to screw it all back in. Not a great long term install on these microwaves.

We can't seem to get past the need to have a quick coffee/hot chocolate warm me upper and pop corn maker so looks like we are stuck with it!!!

Microwave door

I use small bungee cords to hold my replaced microwave in the open spot. Our original one bit the dust so I could not find one with the same measurements so I put in one but keep it strapped down across the front--use 2 bungees--while we are traveling.

Removed the microwave and installed a convection microwave, Removed the oven and stove top, and installed a 2 burner induction cook top, Made a large space put in 3 roll out drawers. Gained a lot of space from the oven removal.

I recommend in future to rig a bungee across the door to keep it shut. We have to improvise to make up for poor workmanship.

My microwave oven door also came open the first time I used the A122. I discovered that the glass plate tray inside the microwave forced the door open on rough roads (it bounces around inside the microwave). So I now removes the plastic wheels and glass plate from the microwave each time I close the A122 for travel. After 2 years the door has not come open while traveling. I store the glass plate in bins under the bed while on the road. I hope this simple fix helps.

You can also cut pool noodles and put them vertically over the plate to keep it from moving.

Any chance you have pictures of what you've done?? Sounds like some good ideas, especially the oven/stove top removal.

We needed the space for storage in our trailer. Most often we don’t have hookups anyway. The microwave came out with the 4 scews in the fascia. It had a standard electrical plug on the cord. The space was rough and unfinished so I lined it with some cheap 1/8” ash paneling. The opening is not the same size as any other doors in the unit so I ordered one to spec from a cabinet shop and finished it to match as well as I could. We have carried the microwave in the bed of the truck and set it up outside on a small table by the outside outlet on the occasion when we have electrical hookups.
