Is hot & cold water supposed to be opposite for on & off on a212hw?

Got an a212hw in December and noticed the cold water faucet turns on clockwise and hot water turns on counterclockwise. The tech said this is normal with some campers.
I never heard of such a thing. Is this really normal to have hot & cold turn in the opposite direction for on & off?

Fairly common in non-US made faucets.

I have American Standard faucets in my house that operate like that. The are all like that in my sinks or showers.

Your lever style faucets operate like that too:

Outside shower, inside shower, kitchen sink, bath sink... cant keep up with which way to turn next. So we broke out the trusty dyno label maker (ya, i am that guy and we travel with one) and posted everyone of the fellows. Really helps during the air blow out procedure on shut dowun....

Thanks. It all makes sense now, sorta. This one (outside shower) has been perplexing to me from the start.

If the faucet has ever been taken apart to replace "washers" or seals the spindle can be put back in backwards so it operates in reverse.

Plumbed Backwards

I had that issue in my shower. Was able to gain access from behind the shower and guess what? Some "employee" at the factory had reversed the hot and cold water lines. Simple fix to just put the hot to hot and cold to cold.

Not sure how that would correct the problem of which direction is used to turn water on or off (clockwise or counter clockwise) which is the original posters concern. Reversing lines would make hot side cold and cold side hot not reverse direction of travel for on- off operation of faucet.

My A122SXR came this way, both sink and shower. I did not like it so after prying up the cap on the knob, I was able unscrewed the knob on the cold side and was able to reverse it. I don't recall how I did it but it was pretty easy to figure out.

There should be a tab on the spindle that mates with a notch in the faucet body. Must be two ways to install them. Maybe one of our plumber friends on the forum can help.

Not really, from what I've used. I'm always used to turning cold to the left for on and right for off. Hot and cold always turn in the same direction from campers I've ownedin the past. Guess it's a millennial thing.

Sorry, but all my life faucets have turned opposite directions from hot to cold.

Only the newfangled single-lever faucets have made everyone forget that.

I don't know why you'd expect the faucets in an RV to be different.

This forum has a reputation for being snarky. I see why.

Mtmurphy, if you stick around for a while I think you’ll see that some posters may have a reputation for being snarky but most are helpful. You can use the ignore list function to not have to read posts from anyone you find to be consistently unhelpful.

I have gotten a lot of friendly helpful suggestions. I was actually surprised that some of my other AFrame groups posted not so flattering opinions of the FR forum. Thanks so much for your reply. I’ll keep the faith !

In my 264dbh both the shower and bathroom sink operate ‘backwards’ like that.

It’s maddening to try to adjust the shower temps.
