Large Skylight Replacement

I need to replace my skylight due to it cracking in the corners,
What material are they made from? I want a new one in a better material. Any recommendations?
Why is ForestRiver putting this junk on their products?
Thanks

Not sure about material, but if you're interested, I documented my experience with replacement here, including instructions from FR.

The good ones are made from Lexan with UV protection. The cheap ones are made with Acrylic and that material gets brittle after a little while even if they add UV protective coating to it.

It all comes down to $$$$. They just want it to last 12 months.

Buy from here. These things are great:
EZ Tops World Wide manufacture acrylic and Lexan skylights and domes.

Which One

Would you recommend using Acrylic or Lexan for the Skylight?

I've always used Lexan replacements on my RVs.

Use Lexan. 1/8" lexan will stop pebbles and rocks thrown by tires, 3/16" will stop large chunks of steel at 60mph. Rocks or other large objects may cause surface deformations (dents or pits) but will not affect the integrity of the lexan.

If you need to drill the holes use a brad point bit, if you need to enlarge the holes use a uni-bit. Holes in lexan need to be slightly larger to allow room for expansion/contraction with temperature changes. Drill all holes at slow speed with minimal pressure. If you tighten fasteners too much the lexan will warp when hot and not allow for contraction in cold causing microscopic stress fractures to form eventually leading to failure. Use windshield adhesive between the lexan and the surface your attaching it to. Using silicone sealants like those used for tubs and tile or RTV sealant will separate from the lexan causing leakage.

I had to use 3/16" lexan for windows in a car shredder control room to stop the steel/cast iron fragments, some as large as a softball.

One question, is the Lexan replacement "bubbled" like the original or flat like a standard window pane?

If you have roof sag like some of us, the stress on the corners may create repeated cracking failures.
