Magic Mesh screen door for A Frame

This is a picture that shows how the Magic Mesh screen door can stay in place when the exterior door is closed. I'm not handy with power tools (that includes sewing machines) so for project simplicity, the two panels were each folded and sewn on themselves to fit the correct width of the door opening.

They are attached to the door frame with velcro, so extremely easy to remove or put up. Last summer,at the dog shows, we were frequently and hurridly in and out of the trailer & surprisingly in our frantic haste to race for ring time, never once pulled it off.

Wow, a friend of mine has one of these on their cottage, keeps the mosquitos out and the dog in!! Great idea for the new Vibe too.

It is velcro'd above the padded door arch and hemmed to the door height. Down the length, each panel's mutiple magnets meet and sofly catch to close. It really does have a nice look from inside and out.

Do you have to stow it some way when you fold down the camper? Doesn't look like you'd need to, but maybe?

Glad you posted this, handbuilder! It reminded me about this mod I've been wanting to try on our Aframe for some time.

I just ordered one from Walmart.com (under $15 "site to store"). We'll will pick it up Saturday afternoon. Now there are no excuses.

My wife & I have been tossing around ideas on how to make this work. Thus now we have the answer. A step by step would be helpful even if the project seems as simple as you state. Our first trip is April 18th. Gotta work on a check list but, I'm sure between us, as soon as we pull the camper out of the garage, all the "Wonderfulness" of it will come flowing out. Woooohoooo.....we are soo pumped up!!

Lee, I just remove it and fold or roll it up and store under dining table bench seat. There are 3 or 4 velcro strips on both sides of door frame, and a couple velcro strips above the door. Once the trailer is set up, I simply hang up the screen door.

Jon & Lynn, It really was an easy uncomplicated project. I folded the panel on itself, pinned it to hold while the folds were sewn together (lengthwise) & the bottom hemmed up. No cutting of the panel material was done. If you look at the photo, you will notice a darker band of black in the middle of each panel, that where I folded the panel over onto itself and sewed in place. Hope that makes sense?

Debbie (farfromstock) made something similar last year...not sure if its posted in her album, maybe she could repost here?

Deb, look forward to seeing what you do with it! I am a sewing challenged person...I use cheater fuse tape whenever I can...me and sharp objects such as sewing needles, are a dangerous mix. haha

Tamara,
DH used to use hot glue for hemming and seam repair on his insulated coveralls. And it actually held up pretty well.

Nothing wrong with a person knowing their limits and getting creative, as the old adage goes:

I like this solution to the missing screen door problem better than I like my earlier stab at it.

Here is what it looks like when the Magic Mesh screen door is not in place. Velcro strips not pretty to look at, but when we are using the trailer, the screen is in place and we dont have to look at them haha

There are 3 velcros on each side and 4 at the top

I'm installing my magic mesh screen today.

On the door side I attached the loop side of the velcro, hoping to minimize any snagging when exiting the door.

It appears that the magnets must snap together 'edge to edge'. Is this true?

I expected the magnets would overlay each other. There is more magnet surface area on the magnet backside than on the magnet edge.

I installed my MM last week and decided to use only half the door, I'll post later in my thread and put a link here.
Here is a pic of the installed MM using half the door.

I use the excess top to roll the mesh in it before folding the trailer.

Very interesting aligning the bottom of the mesh screen with the floor and having the excess at the top of the door to make a screen storage pouch. Please tell us more about your storage pouch. Size... how/where fastened, etc.

Not sure who posted, but I like the idea of using one whole panel attached to the door's hinge side with a 1-3" (I have not measured yet) slice of the second screen (long side with magnets). This way, a person exiting only has to deal with screening on one side of their body.

Handbuilder, we have an A frame pop-up just like yours. We bought it last summer and love it, but miss not having a screen door. Looks like you found a way to "tailor" a mesh screen door. My husband and I are not "handy" types, but I'm going to try to emulate your invention... can you give me a list of the supplies needed? Did you use the "magic mesh" door? Thanks so much.
