New Generator Option for our A-Frames

Just leaving my feedback about the new Westinghouse 2400 Watt generator in case anyone else is on the fence like I was about choosing between a 2k or a much larger 3k generator. Being a newer generator on the market it didn't have many reviews and took a risk purchasing, granted I don't know it's long term reliability I'm happy to say it lives up to its claims of producing a continuous 2k watts / 2400 max and was sufficient to run my Cool Cat, two fans, fridge, lights and stereo on eco mode for around 7 hours. Was able to bring the camper to a retreat center instead of sleeping in bunk beds, and no one even noticed it running, the green color is nice as it blends into the surroundings.

This was my first time bondocking the A Frame, besides running out of water quicker then I thought it went very smoothly. Looking forward to more in the future, if only TX had more public lands!

Looks like a great option. Was thinking of 2 Champion 2000's to be sure the air would work. But this would be better.

I bought one in March, $619 free delivery. Starts easy, it's a new model, the older 2000 couldn't be paired, the new one can in fact they were running a special.....buy two and we'll include the cables the sync them. 40 lbs , easy to start. I've been using it to charge my batteries in front of the house in between trips. very happy so far.

Yes I bought mine from the AP generators site as well since it came with a free cover, had my fingers crossed I wouldn't have to buy another to run parallel and fortunately won't have to!

There was a chance at a sale but he killed it. Think I will stick with a Yamaha, I can get locally.

Maybe a salesman isn't the best soutce. Should have called Westpro the manufacturer of AP electric in Minnesota. Fact is the Yam is probably the better choice, but it's more than $619

Sometimes you just have to spend a little more, like buying a Progressive Industry EMS, or PD converter, or Tekonsha break controller,

I'm not affiliated with Westinhouse in any way just throwing another option out there as there's not many options in between an under-powered 2k generating more like 1600 watts or a 3k. The Yamaha 2400 I'm sure is the best option with much more dealer support should something go wrong, but am hoping not to to have any issues!

Thanks for the post. Not much to read out there on that unit.

I recently did a lot of research, and for what I thought was a value, I got one of these from Amazon - $500 Prime. FYI same price at Menards and Cabelas.

I knew it wouldn't run my A/C, but it runs everything else, including my microwave.
Very nice running unit and easy to handle. If I want more power later, I can just stack on another one for 4000 watts.

Good choice!
Been around long enough to show it to be a proven winner.
Also great customer service.

Great choice! I have been running champion for years and have called a couple times and was always given great service. I have 2 of the 2000 watt inverters and love em. Bought a 3100 inverter with the wireless electric start and absolutely love it! The battery died on me last week and was only 6 months old. I called them, they said the battery is only 90 days from purchase, but sent me one under warranty anyway! And, the 3100 has a high altitude jet, which they sent me for free.

Generators

Hello..........

We went with the Champion 3100W Inverter Generator. A little bigger then the 2K's but very quite. Used it at Smoky Mnt. NP and could run everything on our A212. Got it at Overstock.com for around $500 with free shipping late last year.

You are probably right but I clicked the link that was posted and a chat window came up while I was reading the specs on that window. So I decided to ask a few questions while I had the chance. Between us he would not work for me very long because he is not doing that company any favors, not doing them any good.

You are right about the Yamaha being the better choice. After chatting I took the time to read the reviews that were posted. They were mediocre at best, quite a few negative comments were posted. I wasn't going to come back here and post but felt the members deserved to here my experience. You are right about the cost also but it is my experience that with electrical equipment you normally get what you pay for.

As I stated in another post here, it is my experience that with electrical equipment you normally get what you pay for. That is why I got a Progressive surge suppressor. Many less expensive but none supply the protection that Progressive does.

Had a contractor doing some work for me. He unplugged my 5er to use the extension cord. I noticed I had no power the next day. I looked at the surge protector and as an error of #2, lost ground. It also showed PE2 Meaning previous error #2, so I knew to look for a bad ground. He didn't plug the cord back in tight. I unplugged my 5er and plugged it back in tight and everything came back the way it should have been. I really love that unit! Shows many errors, previous errors, VAC and amperage draw all at a quick glance at the digital screen. Can't be beat! I wanted to know what my air conditioner drew. Turned the air on and walked out and looked at the screen. At 123 vac it was drawing 17 amps. No playing around, I now know my air draws 2091 watts. I now know a 2400 watt generator should be ok to run my 5er's air conditioner provided the generator will handle that high of a surge. I know it took me a minute to get outside because of my broken hip but think I got out in time to see the start up current. I will do it once more to be sure of the reading.
