Plank boards for dinette bed in A-Frame

Another project completed in El Beso...this is my solution to NOT carrying the large heavy table (for bed use) that the trailer came with. I don't use that table when I am solo but sometimes do put up a friend at the dog shows so having the 2nd bed capability is a nice plus in the solo trips.

Here I stained (4) 3/4" pine planks to use in place of the large heavy table as a bed base for the cushions in the dining area.

When not in use, the planks are stored on their side against the wall. A small shelf between the bench seats is placed over the planks making them nearly disappear from view.

I would travel with the table down, and will also plan to travel with the planks in bed mode (just like the table) so it still gives me two levels to pack and carry stuff on & under. Once at destination, the planks can be put away, against the wall and out of the way.

Of course when DH and I are on a trip together, the big table is packed and he can set it up and take it down. My hand injury prevents me from being able to man handle that sucker!

Great job. We also did not like the big table and used 3 pieces of ply wood. When camped we leave one plank in place, with the porta potty underneath and a storage container on top. it still allows enough room for a lighter smaller table that is big enough for 2 to eat off of. If TH is snoring he gets to use the blow up mattress on top of the other planks and it still allows for the storage container in the back. If I was savy enough I would have pics. When I get to that level I will take pics. I hear if u don't have pics it didn't happen.

By the way, the little lamp is really a lampshade with a magnetic LED puck light hanging inside of it. Haha

Here it is sitting on a little swivel top game table (always experimenting with table sizes in this space haha) - with the lights on and with the lights off. It provides a nice soft light so I can still see when DH goes to bed before me. I usually stay up and read...hang out in the dining area for a little while longer...

I am seriously kicking myself! Let my bother borrow our T12. He set a hot grill on the table and burned a basketball sized hole in the center. I just paid $160 to buy a replacement factory top. This post shows a far better solution.

About 33" long and I used 8" pine planks, cherry stain and poly urethane mined. One Plank had to be ripped for the final one.

I really like the way that you did away with the heavy table and put the boards down. My wife and I went camping yesterday and I mentioned to her that I was thinking of doing that to our camper and she did not agree...she likes the table being up. I said sure you do...you are not the one that has to manhandle that heavy table every time we need to get under the storage or set it up for bedtime.

So I'm probably going to do it anyway and when I camp by myself (which is more than with her) I'll use the boards and when she is with me I'll put the table back in. The weather has to be pretty near perfect before she will go with me but I go when I get the chance to go.
