Rockwood A122BH Vent Fan

Hello everyone.
While on our recent trip, the fantastic vent fan raise and lower mechanism seems to have failed. Upon closer look the plastic handle appears fine, but the metal toothed gear that the handle attaches to is appearing fairly smooth.

I was able to use the Philips head screw installed tightly to raise and lower the cover. But, I would appreciate an suggestions on a more permanent repair.

Did the metal knurl on the mechanism wear out the mating knurl in the plastic handle? It’s hard to imagine the plastic wearing out the metal. If the metal teeth are still there at all you can try this: cut small paper clips into pieces that are as long as the depth of the hole in the plastic handle start with two wires only. tape them to the outside of the metal piece the plastic goes over. Gently force the plastic handle back on over the wires. The wires will take the place of the missing plastic teeth. If two doesn’t do it try three and then 4 if the wire is too small in diameter to give you an interference fit to the plastic use larger diameter wire. You have to finesse this repair so you don’t spilt the plastic shaft. Good luck!!!
