Rockwood A124, clueless about cassette toilet

Hi all, we are new here and just pick up our 2012 A124 this afternoon. There are no manuals to read, the dealer couldn't find it. All three technicians at the dealer have no idea how to used the Cassette Toilet. Any suggestions of the best way to dump it? Also there is not a "cap" on the dumping tank that slide out from the camper.. is that normal? We have no experience camping with trailer of any kind but decided to try it out due to our son's allergies that keeping us from traveling/staying at hotel.

The cassette should have a cap on the pivoting tube that you dump from. Without that cap you are going to have a really stinky camper!

The dump process is simple. Take the cassette to a toilet, open the dump cap and tilt the cassette toward the toilet. Once the cassette is level or tilting toward the toilet a little, depress the vent button (small green button on too corner. Pour into the toilet. The toilet will auto flush as you pour. I tilt mine near ventricle to make sure I get all the waste and paper out.

Tilt back and release the vert button, recap and return to the camper.

I rinse mine two or three times at home (partially fill the cassette, close, agitate, open and dump).

Then You are ready for your next trip. Just put the chemical (8 oz) and some water (about 2 liters of water) into the cassette when. You arrive at your camp site and setup.

DON'T travel with a full cassette. Always empty before leaving the camp site.

2 more things.

Make SURE you get the cap. Ask the dealer to contact FR and get all the manuals. Very handy to have the manuals for the first few trips, and although the PDF versions are nice, I would want a full set for my records. All the warranty info on the various appliances are part of the paperwork as well.

Great informations! Thank you! two more questions and I think we might prevent a disaster at the camp ground

. The pictures in the attachments. One pipe is swing out from the waste storage area (top part), this is where we uncap and pour in water for the "Flush" water tank?

Also another picture, I put my finger on a plastic/sliding piece (on the waste tank), do we need to remove this piece for the cassette toilet to work? (it slide back and forth) or do we slide it close and it will open/close on its own when flushing? The RV technicians have no ideas and we are schedule to have our very first camping trip (with a camper) in two days.

The first picture is indeed where you fill the fresh water. There is a sight tube on the side with a full mark. Basically fill to the top. It's ok to fill (and easier) before leaving on the trip.

The slid in top of the cassette should be closed when you place the cassette in the toilet housing. The housing will handle sliding it into the operating position when inserted into the toilet.

Remember fresh water only on the top fill tube (first pic). The blue toilet chemical gets added to the cassette via the dump cap, which based on your picture is definitely missing. It should be a green cap with a measuring cup built in.

Thanks so much! without these information, I believe my family would prabably get very sick at the campsite. We started loading the camper today and found the manual and that "Green" cap tuck away in a far corner of the exterior storage compartment. I will call the dealer tomorrow and let them know that there is a cap for the waste tank. As I don't know how many other family had they told that "this is a new model and it didn't need the cap".

To each his own, but we always dump our cassette, then rinse several times with clean water and drain completely. Dry off the outside of the cassette, and reinstall. Then we pour some blue stuff in the bowl and flush with a little water. This leaves a fresh tank with new chemical that won't smell when you set up again. After the next trip repeat all of the above. We find there is no need to add additional chemical until we dump again. The service guy at the dealership told us once, " never drop a sword in a dry tank". Colorful speech, but correct.

Additionally, the freshwater fill spout always appears full at the cap. As mentioned, use the sight tube to determine how much fresh water is in The rinse tank. Ours quit pumping twice this past weekend because I assumed that since the water was full in the spout, the tank was full...it wasn't and we had to use the shower to rinse the bowl. Also, it is my opinion that the bowl is not intended to hold water like a conventional toilet. The seal between the cassette and the holding tank might leak. I have not checked on the new camper, but the previous owner of my aliner tried everything including buying a new cassette to fix the "problem". Not allowing water to stand in the bowl has worked well for us. The small amount that remains after sealing the tank (closing the flush handle) is sufficient to prevent odors from escaping the tank. This concludes toilet 101. Good luck!
