Rolling Up Your Water Hose

I just order the Handi-hose myself. We used to have one for years. It is well worth it even if it's only for a few years. When you hook it up you have to make sure that it doesn't make sharp turns because it will kink but once you see how it works you will know how to stretch it out. It might be wise if you can afford it to get a 50' and a 25' for the shorter runs. Hope this helps

I'd really like to find a source for the 10' Handi-Hoses. They advertise them on their own site, but you have to buy like 6 of them at a time.

Those mounted hose holders look really great but, how do you know where to put them in your compartment? I'm sure that if I put a screw hole into my camper, I would hit an electrical wire or something that would ruin my whole camper!

Whatever you do,,,,don't buy one made in China. I had the taste in my mouth for a long time,,,,,and that was after flushing it out for an hour. Yes, it was a white "drinking" hose that I got from WalMart. Get one made in the USA for sure.

I find if you are using a regular white/blue hose and need to roll it up into a neat roll, it requires that you put a twist in it for every coil. You will quickly find it will rest quite nice when you give it the correct twist. Now, just give this a try with your yard hose and when you pull it out you will get twists in the hose. I find if you put your hose in a figure 8, no twist is necessary, grab the nozzle and go. Of course it's better to have a real reel. Just my penny thought.

Don't worry, be happy. We've only been recommending drinking water rated flat hoses.

Ya and don't you remember that funny smell and taste in the water that had sat in the hose for a while? Yuck. If you let the clean water run through the garden hose then it it is OK to drink. I've even filled my fresh water tank from a garden hose. No smell at all. But that doesn't apply to a hose hooked to the side of your camper.

I have tried the American reel up hose. Kinda worked ok but gets dirty and eventually becomes difficult to roll up. Plus it kinks bad even with water in it...have to lay it out straight. I found this on Amazon and works great....

Got 2 air hoses like that and we've decided they are a big PITA as they coil back on themselves and get tangled real easy.

I just coil it up screw the ends together and then bundle it up with an old boot lace that did not have a mate.

I have not had time to read all the posts on this string but from an old Mariner....... and this is only if you have the room, coil your hose in a figure 8. This way it is not a "coil" when you got to use it and usually does not tangle or kink. Another (somewhat unrelated thing) I learned over the years that the "lay" of rope is such that when coiling, it should be coiled clockwise. However all cable, including most electrical, is "layed" in the opposite direction and therefore best coiled counter-clockwise. This is not to say that you cannot coil anyway you like but the correct direction usually makes it a bit easier.

I try to keep the storage box pretty organized but when I try to roll my water hose up it curls and twists and I finally just throw it into the storage compartment. I tried rolling it into a 5gal bucket but that was a pain.

Any ideas?

David, I got rid of the regular water hose and purchased a coil retractable water hose. The best thing I ever bought for the trailer. Scroll down a bit on this page and you will get a picture.

A lot of great ideas here. For us space constrained AFramers, I still find the self-flattening hose to be the solution.

American Specialty Handi-Hose and Reel 50' $40.99

Those will last about 1 yr. before they leak from my experience. Suggest you look at Valterra W01-7300. Had mine for a couple three years and can be wound up pretty compactly on what you would use for an extension cord
