I purchased my camper new from a dealership in spring of 2015. Long story ever longer, my camper has been back to the dealership four times to fix a warranty issue since last fall. See this post for warranty problem (
http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...nt-113988.html). The dealership ended up replacing the front cargo lid and rebuilding the front wall and replaced the rear roof section as it was bowing and could possibly leak at the seal. To replace the front wall and cargo lid they had to remove the front roof section as well. Both roof sections had to be removed and now the roof sections are out of alignment. I will not go into the details of the first two trips to pick up the camper when it was supposedly fixed but the tech that did the work is no longer employed. The third trip out to pick up the camper after the head tech tried to fix it just resulting in finding more issues and more parts being ordered. I took the camper home for a few weeks while the parts were on order and found several more issues (from the first tech that was fired). I notified the shop of the new issues when I dropped it off for the fourth time as well as hoping they could fix the roof alignment issues. I picked up the camper yesterday. It is better but not perfect.
The main problem is the roof sections are not lining up. This has been the main issues since I went to pick it up the first time. The front section is shifted toward the driver side by about a 3/8 of an inch. So much that I can fit my hand under the roof edge on the driver’s side. The rear panel seems to be off by a few degrees to the driver’s side which causes a bulge on the front roof section along the edge of the driver’s side. All of this is causing the peaks on the inside of the camper to be off. The curb side is the worst as it is off by over a 1/2 inch. When you close the camper the rear roof section rubs the door slightly but does bend and close.
I think what frustrated me the most is how the dealership keeps missing the problems and says it is fixed. The first time I went to pick it up the roof would not even close as it hit the door. I have no idea how they over looked that. The second time it was closing but that is when I noticed they roof panels were not aligned and found a few other issues. The third time I noticed the peak was off by about an inch and took it to another shop for a second opinion and immediately drove it back to the dealership after they agreed it was not right. When I picked it up yesterday I pointed out that it was not perfect, but it was better it was, thanked them and went on my way. On the drive home (the dealership is an hour away) I began to have doubts. You would not take your car back from a body shop it the panels did not line up. Why should it be different for a camper?
I contacted Forest River after the second trip out to pick up the camper. They said I could take it to another shop. The only other shop around me will not do warranty work unless you buy the camper from them. They will work on the camper and have a lot more experience with the roof replacement, but I would have to pay them and then the dealership I bought it from would have to pay me and they would have to get reimbursed by Forest River.
The camper is useable and I don’t think I am going have any issues (maybe some rubbing and heat loss in cold weather where the side wall does not seal well with the roof). I am concerned about the resale value. At this point I am going to enjoy the camping season, but I don’t think I should settle. Am I being to picky? What would you do?
