(was Buyer Beware)-A122 Camper- "FIXED"

I am so disappointed. Here I was singing the praises of my beloved A122, and today, my husband opened it up only to find water damage and mold. Our last trip was in June and our new trip is this Friday. The mattress is ruined (soaked and moldy -its electric), the table, all the bedding and mattress topper, the edging around the microwave counter is coming off, etc. I've contacted my dealer about this flaw. Silly me, I thought I could keep the camper outside. It will be interesting to see how Forest River handles this...

Sorry to hear that. Any idea where all that moisture came from?

We keep our camper in the yard (closed up) and the moisture is from rain seeping into it. Not sure where it gets in from which has us afraid it will just keep happening. We've only had the camper four months. This should not happen.

You're right, it shouldn't happen.

Funny thing, every time we would have a storm, I worried a tree would come down on it. I never thought the rain itself would do the damage...

sorry to hear about this as well and hope forest river takes care of you on this.

I would have been in the same boat as you when I brought my trailer home but was told to look over the roof and decided as a preventative to re-caulk all the seams - found some areas that would have became an issue if I didnt caulk them with the Lap Sealant.

Oh Earthgirl, I am so sorry you are experiencing problems. Please keep us posted on what/where the leak is and how the dealer is handling this for you. I am extremely concerned as I have the A128. Fortunately mine is under a carport but didn't know it was required???

I am just about ready to buy an A122, but don't know what to do now since I have to park it outside. I am so sorry to hear about this, Earthgirl. I know how frustrating this must be.

That really sucks! It sounds like they are taking care of it. I would guess that the water is coming from the tinted roof window, when I was looking at a few of the campers on the lot, one had a leak and was already causing damage. Forest River said they are switching to a new type of gasket material to correct this.

My camper is still dry but I have stress cracks on each corner of the window from the rivets being to tight. I sealed everything, but the dealer is going to replace the window and use the new gasket.

I really like my camper and as long as the dealer takes care of it, I will maintain my sanity.

Mike G, or anyone else, what type of caulking do you use to seal everything? Do you just go around and add new sealant as you would do for a house window? You don't try to remove it like the bath tub, do you?

My a126 is an early 2011 model. I've heard of the leaks around the window. I read somewhere there was a recall for new seal. I hope it's been applied to my a126.

Best of luck... I'll keep a close eye on mine.

I went to a RV show this weekend and a few of the Rockwood A-frames had different set-ups on the window, some had rivets in the corners and some did not; They all had bad caulk jobs!

I did get a chance to compare an A-Liner to the Rockwood and I was not impressed with the A-Liner. I just hope that when I get my window replaced at the dealer, they do a good job.

Mike,

Does yours have the rivets? I'm wondering if mine has the new seal. mine has the rivets (and sad looking caulk job). The rest of the caulking seems much better around the camper leading me to think the window was done at the dealer.

Has anyone done any caulking at home on their A-frame? What type of caulking would you use? Basic silicone from hardware store?

We are unable to keep our camper at our house (steep road and HOA regulations).

Because it lives in our community campground/storage area. We check our RV several times a month to make sure nothing has happened to it...especially after a rain storm or ice and snow.

I look for damp or discolored areas around the windows, vents, doors, ramp door (toy hauler) and around the ceiling. I even check inside cabinets...you just never know where water damage will show up. Takes only a few minuets to do and I can make sure "all is well". Also look for evidence of bugs or mice.
