Water Heater

We have an A122s and trouble with water heater. I understand it is propane only. We removed the water filter because case cracked and off market just didn't work so we just put a fitting in to connect the two pipes. Then we didn't get any water at all and after we cleaned out the aerator it worked fine. Water is coming out of both facets. Now no hot water. Propane is on. I turned on the switch which I understand is all you have to do. But nothing. Electricity is working fine. Frig works fine. Any suggestions?

Is the water heater still bypassed from the winterization?

Welcome to the forum!

Is this trailer new to you?
As jmoore said, check to see if the bypass valves are set correctly. The valves should be set in the direction of water flow. If they are set horizontally to the pipe, it's probably in bypass mode.

This video might help.

One more thing, the water heater switch is under the bench next to frig. Next to it is a red-light indicator that says reset. It doesn't flash when I turn on the switch. Also csnt press it or fo anything with it. Not sure why it's there. ???

I have never taken the bench cover off so would be surprised if it is being bypassed but will ck.

I really appreciate all the responses.

That DSI red reset/fault lamp is explained fully in post #5 at this link:

Has the water heater been operating correctly recently or is this the first time it was used for the year?

There's no point in being pessimistic. It wouldn't work anyway.

I took off the bench seat and confirmed the heater is not being bypassed. The battery is hooked up and lights work. I have not hooked up electricity. Stove burners light fine. When I turn on heater i do not hear a click click. Does it sound like an igniter problem? My husband has given up he said we should just use an electric kettle.

You have not told us what make/model water heater you have, since FR does use a few different brands. Pics would help us out a lot in troubleshooting your problem. Just assuming you have the Suburban brand, you can open the outside cover to the water heater. There will be some rubber covers near the top (see pic below). You want to press in on the right hand side cover (see arrows) to reset the gas/propane hi limit thermostat in case it has tripped. If your water heater is truly a gas only heater, there may just be a right hand side cover.

Again I ask before you attempt this, has it been working correct recently or is the first time you have tried it this year?

It could be an igniter problem.

You can try the reset buttons as wmtire suggests and let us know the make and model of that water heater.

It's a Suburban SW6D. The water heater worked first two years fine. Then last two years we had water problems (filter case cracked, aerator plugged) and didnt even use the water. It takes us awhile to figure things out we re a little challenged in that area.

But gollie gee whiz. I did the thermostat reset (my panel looks exactly like the picture you sent) and red indicator flashed and heard a click click click and its working I think as I'm writing this. I'll ck it in 15 min. Thank you thank you thank you.
