Water tank clean out

I was wondering what is the best way to clean out our fresh water tank before our trip?
Do I put a bit of bleach in the tank?

Do you drink from your fresh water tank?
Could taste bleachy for awhile if you do.

The linked method is as good as any I've seen. Just to add: drain the water heater before adding bleach to the fresh water tank. The heater holds 6 gallons and if it's full of fresh water all you'll do is severely dilute the bleach solution if it's not empty. Keep the hose with the bleach running until the water heater is full then continue with the video.

Once or twice a season has worked for us (meaning we've not been poisoned ). If the camper can be driven around after the tank is full so much the better.

Use "Spring Fresh Water System Cleaner and Deodorizer" you can find it in your local RV store, or online, like here: https://www.amazon.com/Camco-40207-T.../dp/B000EDUTQS

I usually only do this at the beginning of the season then I just flush with fresh water during the summer before each trip, and I do use it as drinking water. My RV cold water system also has a filter built into it.

Water heater flush

Be sure to drain the "bleach water" from your water heater when you flush the system. I forgot to do that once and smelled like an over chlorinated pool after that shower. Drained and flushed the water heater before mama-san got her morning shower and I got an earful.

Fresh Water tank

Thanks for the info. We did it and hopefully the water tank is fine. We don't use the fresh tank water to drink. Wash dishes, etc.

Reminder with propane soot and refrigerator

We were surprised to find so much soot in the refrigerator propane area. Just a reminder to check and clean out.

The manual tells you what bleach mixture and how long to leave it to sanitize the system. I usually flush the tank and system 3 times after that to get the water tasting clean.

Fresh Water Tank

We watched the videos and did what they said about mixing the bleach and water before putting it into the tank.
Did flush bleach water out. When we got to our campsite we put in new fresh water. We do not use this water for drinking or cooking purposes.
Thanks for the ideas!
