What do you use put across the roof of your A-frame to safely work on it?
I originally posted this question to an old post, Replacing Rear Roof Foam Strip, but did not get a response. So, I thought to start a new thread to learn what you experienced A-Framers have done to safely access and work on the center portion of the roof.
What do you use to put across the roof so you can safely distribute your weight across the roof and not damage it when doing basic maintenance like removing oxidization and stains and waxing, or to do more serious stuff like caulking or replacing the foam weather strip? I have found it very difficult and awkward and not efficient to reach that area leaning over the roof from a ladder.
Last year to access the center part of the roof I tried using a 2 by 12 board that was long enough to extend beyond the metal edges. It worked so I could get to the center of the roof but was very awkward to work from. Ideally it would be good to have something wider.
I have been thinking of maybe using a thick piece of plywood; not a full sheet, but a piece that would at least extend across the metal edges and have the width cut down to about three feet with some kind of padding or scratch protection on the underside.
What have you used have you used to work on the roof center area that worked well for you?
Thanks in advance.
