Winterizing

I have been trying to educate myself as much as possible as this is my first TT, but still have some winterizing questions.

Rockwood 122S

Should I get the pump converter kit for adding antfreeze. I just hate a potential point of failure(leak)

Do I need to add antifreeze to the city water tank, as I heard there is a check valve in their that should be protected, even if I never used the city water tank?

I am sure I have other questions that I can't think of yet.

I've been using those CAMCO kits for over 10 years without issue. Follow the installation instructions and don't over-tighten the connections. Don't add antifreeze to the fresh water tank, just drain it. There isn't a check valve in the tank. When you charge your system with antifreeze go outside, remove the screen on the CW connection, stand off to the side an push the button on that check valve, and the antifreeze will purge the water out of that line. Make sure your water heater is drained, and in bypass mode. You don't want antifreeze in that tank, either. If you have an outside shower, don't forget to purge that as well.

At your CW (city water) connection there is a washered screen. remove the screen and there is the check valve with a button.

No need to add antifreeze to the city water line. The water pump will pressurize that line up to the check valve. Push the button and the antifreeze will shoot the water out of the line. Stand off to the side though or you will get a bath.

I use a handpump connected to the city water conector. I just buy 1 gallon of rv anti freeze at walmart and thats enough to push all the water out of mine. I do the sink first, then outside shower. Water heater is by passed and drained.
Here is the pump I use. You can also get it at walmart.
Just stay away from buying anything at camping world.

Now if I can just find a cover that has good reviews I will be in good shape. Sooo many bad reviews on covers. Was leaning towards an Adco until I read the reviews. Ugh

Any cover advise is appreciated.

Nothing wrong with ADCO covers from my view point. Depending on your climatic conditions some will last 2, 3 or 4 years. I am going on year 5 with my current cover. I've experienced a few rips and tears from winds near the bottom, but have patched them with duct tape. The fabric has yet to rot. One thing to understand from the start, they are NOT waterproof. Additionally they have vent flaps that allow your rig to breathe. With that said, when you pull the cover off come spring, your rig will need a good scrubbing.

When I remove the anorod and drain hot water tank, do I reinstall it and use thread tapes as part of the winterizing?

When I dewinterize next Spring there would be no need to remove the anorod again would there?

I drain my system by opening the push/pull low side water valves located next to water heater., open the hot and cold on kitchen faucet. I do this after every camping trip.
You can remove the anode after water is drained. I tape a screen over the hole to keep out bugs and homeless people.
In the spring i connect ecy the hose to the camper and flush out the anti freeze, then un bypass the water heater and turn the water on to flush out any junk in water tank, then put teflon tape on the anode and screw it back in.
It is best to remove the water filter in a/c compartment before putting in the anti freeze.
I didnt put one back in cause they expensive e and I don’t plan on using the pump or fresh water tank. I just buy the water filters that connect to the hose. I have a 90 degree elbow that i connect to the filter and camper.

We have a rockwood 8312ss rv. When winterizing with outside antifreeze valve and the water filter housing gets full of antifreeze do you leave antifreeze in the housing all winter or take it off and drain again ?

I take it out, wash it and reinstall it without a filter. The canister will absorb the AF.

I don't put the anode rod back in. If it still has life left I merely dry it off and place it a zip lock bag until the spring. I rinse out the water heater with a wand and let it dry, then install a PVC 3/4" pipe plug in the anode hole. In the spring I will give it another rinse and install the old anode rod with some Teflon tape.

All great tips!! @Billk28078, since you don't use your filter that came with your camper, use a coupler to bypass it. Then you'll never have to worry about filling up the canister with the pink stuff.

When I make a air return trunk to go from the ac/heat pump to the grate air return, ill think about removing the filter housing. Good idea, should give me more room in there.

I just bought the conversion kit for the antifreeze. On my A122S, looks like there is 2 sided thin wall that surrounds the pump with two screws holding the braces for that mini wall. I guess I need to remove that wall temporarily and maybe mod(cut) that thin wall to accomodate the space needed for the small conversion kit.

Anyone install this conversion kit on an A122 series TT?

My 2019 A213HW came with an antifreeze induction valve located underneath the camper in the pipe going from the water tank to the water pump. You might check there, and/or install the kit there.

I will look pgand, but if I install the conversion kit, I am thinking I mount as shown in this pic, before the pump filter??? So outlet, converter, pump filter, pump. The only reason I ask is a saw a vid do it this way, but saw another where he put the converter between the filter and the pump which did not make alot of sense.
